There are so many things about this book that I was hesitant over going into it.

The series name, for one. So. Cringeworthy.

The hero was pretty crass but not an actual douchebag, so points for that. And the heroine wasn't your typical NA/romance heroine.

What made this book a joy to read was the banter between Jameson and Oz, though. It was pretty much non-stop.

Points taken off for the ending, though, because it came out of nowhere and seriously confused me to the point that I flipped back a couple pages to see if I missed something.

All in all a good NA title, with smooth writing, snappy dialogue, and well-rounded characters with no ridiculous drama. If you're thinking about reading NA, I'd definitely recommend this one!

Not really all that memorable. But still an OK read if you like contemporary, college romances.

The Studying Hours is a fun, over-the-top introduction to the How to Date a Douchebag series. It features the handsome but oh-so-arrogant hero (and douchebag in question), Oz, and the studious, take-no-cr@p heroine, Jameson (aka James); two characters, who at first glance, appear to be complete opposites. However, when a bet brings these two people together, both realise there might just be more than meets the eye with one another.

This was my first ever book by Ney and I immediately fell in love with her outlandish, sarcastic, and hilarious writing style. I loved that she genuinely made Oz a douchebag but allowed him enough redemption to appeal as the hero. Likewise with James, she is often mistaken for being a bit of a prude due to her conservative exterior (she adores a buttoned cardigan and pearl necklace combo); but anyone who takes the time to get to know her will quickly see she's so much more than her clothing. She takes her education seriously but also loves to shred down the slopes on her snowboard, and always has a smartass comment at the ready!

Ney continually kept me entertained in this book, and two additional re-reads later, I still feel the same. This story and it's characters are a definite comfort read and I can see myself re-reading this story again and again in the future. Absolutely love this book!

P.S. the 'sports' part of this sports romance is collegiate wrestling which isn't a common sport where I'm from nor is it something I've read much about so I loved getting a glimpse of it in this series.

I'm sorry, am I supposed to like the guy? The guy whose every other word seems to be trying to get into Jameson's pants? The guy that we spend like 80% of the headspace in (mostly because I think the author was afraid he wouldn't be likable if we couldn't get into his pov. You know, if we judged by his actions alone) that hangs out with asshole friends and is basically an asshole himself? That guy?

Yeah, no.

I vaguely liked Jameson because I thought she was funny and had a backbone, but gooood forbid that she couldn't be like the other girls and had to dress conservative (apparently cardigans all look the same and dowdy). You also learn so little of her other than apparently she's more exciting than she looks (here I sort of squint) and that she does snowboarding. I'm still waiting to see how she's more exciting than how she looks. Is it the non-virgin status because... still not... exciting...

And okay, let me say it, because I can't NOT say it. Wrestling is not very sexy to me. Do you see those unitards wrestlers wear? Apparently Jameson is all for it, but I can't. I can't think of them as sexy. They're just. Just. Unitards.

Okay, some positives, the writing isn't bad and is mostly entertaining. I just question the characterization and sort of yawn every other time Sebastian focuses on sex because apparently he can't think of anything else. Which is hilarious that apparently he has much better grades than Jameson because I don't know how he focuses on anything but sex. I did, however, appreciate that Jameson wasn't that smart, but tried her hardest at studying.

Though cliche dream sequences...

Anyway! 1.5 stars, rounding up to 2.

Good.

This was a little too long for me. With the length of the book, I expected a little bit more development especially with some of the life circumstances that are driving the main characters, particularly Oz. We actually didn’t get anything about James’ formative years. That being said, I liked the humor in the book and I did want to read through to the end.

I've been meaning to read this book for a while. I'm so glad I did. It was a fun, interesting story that is different from the norm. The little quotes at the beginning of the chapters gave me life. I adore both of the main characters. I can't wait to read the next book.

I knew I would love this book from the outset, so it was no surprise I really did. Sebastian isn't really a douchebag, at least in my opinion. Little miss Jameson is just a tad uptight. However that being said this was such a great read and I totally enjoyed every aspect of this book. This story is told in alternating views.

Sara Ney is fantastic! I need the next installment ASAP. I loved the characters names and everything about them I mean Jameson and Sebastian.... great names. I loved this next step up from her Kissing In Cars series. A lot more intimate scenes and I really felt like the tension and buildup between the characters was perfect.
