4... close to 3.5 honestly but I'll bump it up. This book still suffers from some of the issues of the previous book. After reading this one, I've narrowed it down to mostly pacing issues. Scenes that should be longer are short, scenes that should be short are longer. It's mostly the latter, things that seem really important happen very quickly. Like there's a scene at the end where
SpoilerAvery and the others have their final fight (of this book) with Caspian and members of his family, and it's described in like 2-3 lines.
It's very odd. The resolution with
SpoilerHelena attacking Caspian's father, Sebastien,
was also too quick. I thought more detail could/should have been devoted to
Spoilerthe big ritual where they get their powers back, especially Avery fighting off the possession.

Like I said before, the bones of these books are so good. The universe, the magic, etc. The characters could use more attention (especially those other than Avery/Alex) and I think if the pacing was fixed, it would have been amazing. But I'll keep reading because they're quick reads and I'm into it enough to want more haha. I need to see how it turns out.

Ok ok ok. I know I said I wasn't going to read book two of this series. But after I finished book one and it just...stopped I needed to know what happens.

The thing is, the story is great. I love the concept and it harkens me back to the show Charmed. The way they are looking for and finding the grimoires is so good. I love the small town of white haven and its ambiance it adds to the story.

So this book. It was better. The writing was tighter and we got some things done in this book that I wanted from the first. I also enjoy that the witches have been paired up and it adds to the romance aspect that I enjoy. Once again this book just stopped, what feels like, suddenly. But before it ended we added another layer of threat.

It was good. I'm already listening to the third book and while I am still not positive I will read all 13, of think I will likely read more of them at least.
