This was a fun read but I was much more interested in the daily lives of the New York Irish in turn of the century Manhattan than the central mystery that Molly was embroiled in. The mystery wraps up much too quickly and seemed like an afterthought to the struggles of a new immigrant to New York.
I debated between 3 and 4 stars because I feel like the intended point fo the book was missed since the mystery was not engaging but I think it worked so much better as historical fiction that I'd read the second book in the series and see if it keeps up its strong points.

Good start to a mystery series set in the early 1900’s in NYC. Reminiscent of Victoria Thompson’s Gaslight series in terms of setting. Fun, quick read. Will definitely read the next one.

If you are after a light, cosy historical mystery then this hits the mark. It's nothing to write home about but it's certainly better than watching reality tv!

On the run from the law, Molly Murphy sets sail to America only to get stuck in the middle of a murder investigation.
I loved this little book. The crime novels I've read recently they can be very dark and probably more psychological thriller-y than this one, but I enjoyed the more light-hearted mystery. With all the added fun of the societal rules of the 1900, Molly is head strong and gets herself in a whole lot of trouble.
Looking forward to reading more in the series.

Turn-of-the-century New York murder mystery with a stubborn woman detective. Very good. Has that "homey" quality I like.

Good cozy read. I like Molly's gumption and I love this era in New York. I look forward to reading more from this series.

So everyone lives as happily ever after as Irish immigrants can in New York City in 1901.
