Two friends enter a corn maze and get stuck with corpses that look just like them.

Really interesting metaphor for trauma and abusive (romantic) relationships

I get the complaints on this book. Sure, it’s repetitive at times, but that’s how the brain works. You have triggers and symbols and loops and you ride the wave and you survive. Things change and you move on. You choose the next door, and you make an exit

Very slow start and I considered giving up because the main character was getting a bit annoying but the mystery of the maze pulled me forward. Glad I finished.

What Stalks Among Us was an absolute treat to read during the fall as a perfect horror book. I was on the edge of my seat for most of the story, and loved all the twists and turns in the plot. If you like creepy settings, relatable characters, strong friendships, and corny jokes (ha, pun), then you need to read this book. The ending was so impactful which added even more to the story. I look forward to reading more books from Hollowell in the future.

Come for the spooky time-loop corn maze, stay for the lessons on overcoming trauma!

When I started this book, I did not expect it to make me feel so many emotions. I don't want to spoil anything, but it hit me pretty hard, and I could relate to Sadie in a lot of ways.

A really profound exploration of healing the trauma of abusive and toxic relationships. Some aspects of the plot and writing style just didn't work for me, especially the random dialogue choices that the main character made up for herself and then just didn't use. The constant pop culture references were a bit weird too - they are very salient for the present time but I feel like even a month or two later they will date the book and hurt the sense of companionship we feel with the characters.
