Alice is a rich but neglected teen, fond of Agatha Christie novels, who is now ostracized after having disappeared for a few days last summer. Iris is her tutor, from the wrong side of the tracks and hiding a secret of her own. When Alice's former best friend is found dead and her ex the main suspect, the two team up to try and figure out what happened.

The beginning of the book gave off major Veronica Mars vibes, with the ostracized former popular girl turned sleuth, and I really wish the book dug more into Alice's story and the class dynamics. The mystery was fairly predictable (I guessed pretty early, and the duo hone in on one suspect extensively to the point you know it has to be someone else). I enjoyed the dynamics between the two leads--with the addition of Iris's Zoner friends, the most. I also liked the slow teasing out of the story of Alice's own disappearance (Iris's secret is more obviously telegraphed). An enjoyable start to a series, but not sure I loved it enough to continue, but I'm also not the target audience!

this is a YA mystery that I actually didn’t mind! definitely wasn’t life changing or anything like that but it was a fun time and I loved the friendship between our two main female characters. 3/5 ⭐️

This was so good. Definitely gave me a good girls guide to Murder/ truly devious vibes. Even though I was suspicious of this person from the beginning, there were still lots of plot twists and reveals throughout the book that kept it entertaining.

A nice read but nothing to write home about.

Alice disappears. Alice appears again, unharmed and unexplained. Now Brooke, her (ex)best friend, disappears. But turns up dead. Now it's up to Alice and Iris to find out who is responsible for her death. Accident? Murder? They are about to find out.

I was hesitant on how high to rate The Agathas. It was really easy to read, I liked the murder/mystery aspect. I am, however, hesitant because the whole point of it is that Alice is obsessed with Agatha Christie. And it just... Isn't a plot point. Like, it really does not matter at all whatsoever. There's selected quotes from Agatha Christie stories and sometimes Alice or Iris talk about Alice liking the books. But it's so irrelevant that I got annoyed at how effing irrelevant it is.

That being said, I'd still recommend the books or read a second part in a series. Perfect for a light and quick reading without having to think much.

The writing was nothing special, if that’s what you’re here for- but the characters felt like people I knew by the end of reading this, the mystery was great, and the book in all was extremely entertaining.
