Best narrator I’ve heard on audible so far.

“The nexus of my power lies in my higher brain’s ability to choose which stories I’m going to listen to, which stories I’m going to believe, going to support, and going to act upon.”

Listened to as an audiobook, which was narrated by Clare herself. It was a real treat, Clare has a lovely voice and I could listen to her talk for hours on end. This is a honest memoir, sad and happy, about learning to tame the inner critic and a story of the things we overcome.

The most excellent use of the audiobook format I’ve heard yet! Snippets of her songs, audio recordings from her youth, and a message from her mum at the start, so great. I hope more audiobooks incorporate cool stuff like this!

Highly recommend this as an audiobook. A friend suggested that platform to me even though I'm not a big audio reader. But the song snippets introducing each chapter, the sweet attempts at her mum's Dutch accent, and the occasional cameo appearances of her actual mother, just bring it to life.

It's an important story, humbly told. And I love that, as well as being a avenue for raising mental health awareness and normalising experiences, it's also an honouring of a long-held promise she made to herself. That's an inspiration in itself.

Tender, heart-breaking and heart-making. Bowditch's honesty and commitment to life shines throughout. An inspiring read that I doubt I will ever stop thinking about.

An interesting, thoughtful and thought-provoking exploration of mental health/anxiety and its relationship to early childhood trauma. It's really lovely reading a memoir of someone who has achieved fame, being honest and open about their journey to get there. I listened to the Audible book which Clare narrates herself, and it felt like getting to know her.

This was a really heartfelt, warm memoir from an icon of the Australian music scene. Claire does such a good job of capturing moments from her youth and taking you inside her mind and the mental illness that plagued her. The audiobook is narrated by Claire herself, who is a wonderfully engaging storyteller, and she sang sections of her songs throughout. Her mother delivered the content warning at the start which was also very moving. A beautiful and worthy piece of writing.
