My 100th read for 2018!!! For this momentous occassion, I couldn't have finished a better book than this one that I've anticipated reading since February 2018.

Michelle Obama is my hero. She's my hero because she's real and representative of all that can happen for you in the world if you embrace hard work, embrace opportunities that are given to you and don't give up in the face of adversity.

Her story of the teacher who told her she wasn't Princeton material, that story hit me so hard because that was a story of mine and I didn't find the strength to prove my shit teacher wrong, yet. I found a job that I love in another field that I went to school for, but sometimes I wonder, what would have happened if I didn't have that bad teacher's voice in my ear. Michelle showed me the good side of being ambitious and the bad side of a lack of spiritual fulfillment even when you get what you want. I think that's such an important story for young women to read for so many reasons. Where would I be? Where could I be? What do I want? So many questions. All important for us to check out about ourselves.

Michelle really gave over her story, all the shade towards bullshit that she had to experience, all the fear and hopeless/hopefulness, all the worry and all the joy -- plus the pictures! Oh! The pictures! The entire book was just magical and an experience and a full look into the complexities of strong black women in the spotlight.

I enjoyed the look into her famous marriage and what it's like to be married to the POTUS as well as what it's like to be married to the man. The love, sadness and work of it all. I loved this book and I want to thank Michelle Obama for sharing her life story with us. All of it, all the struggles and the wins and the missteps and the perfect steps. It was a joy to read, it was absolutely worth the wait and the young lady inside of me, my young black girl heart, she rejoices!

Thanks Michelle!

Love, love, love, love.

I'm well aware of how hyped this book was, especially the audiobook and it didn't disappoint. It was so refreshing to hear about Michelle's life directly from her, with the story being told exactly like she wanted it to.

years ago, i tried to read this and i couldn't get through it, then i watched the Becoming documentary on Netflix (which i loved), which gave me the motivation to come back to finish this lol. i had to skim a lot of it, because this writing style was really not my cup of tea, and when Michelle was talking about Barack's political stuff, i really zoned out. but reading this just confirms my belief that Michelle Obama is one of the best people ever. she's a very genuine, hardworking and very kind person. there were a lot of wonderful quotes, and it's amazing to see how her past and her experiences have shaped her to be the kind of person she is.

from young, her family has helped her feel that she matters. she has carried this security into every stage of her life and it's helped her achieve a lot of really big things - going to Princeton and Harvard, her progress in her work life, becoming First Lady. i loved how openly and warmly she talked about the love and support she had received from her family, how they taught her to be resilient, optimistic and hard-working, and how much these values had supported and shaped her whenever she was doing something new and big. it's led her to want to bring up her daughters with the same love and nurturing, and it's the goal of her outreach initiatives with young people and kids. she wants them to feel like they matter.

i loved the inside look into the Obamas and i loved how openly she talks about her relationship with Barack. i love how much she wants to repay the nurturing and support she received from family, friends, colleagues, and all kinds of people by sort of paying it forward into nurturing the younger generation. even despite becoming First Lady, she is down-to-earth and humble, only thinking about how to use her new (and unwanted) influence and platform to do meaningful work. i was telling my therapist how she is honestly a great role model. what an inspiration.

This book feels, besides many other things, like a love letter from Michelle Obama to her parents, husband, children and friends. It is so special, I had tears in my eyes a LOT of times.

Really powerful and excellent read. I loved learning about her experiences in Chicago and it opened my eyes to a new perspective about the city. But most of all her respect and honor towards military families moved me to tears. I’m so thankful for the work Michelle Obama did to help military families and her kindness towards us is so moving.
