4⭐ | The Shining

The Shining presents a deeply written story that explores the characters' internal struggles and prejudices powerfully. The book does an excellent job of explaining why the characters find themselves at the infamous Overlook Hotel, with the motivations and circumstances of each individual illuminated, adding a solid layer of depth to the narrative.

This was my first experience with the horror genre, and while I could feel the tension gradually building throughout the book, I didn’t find it particularly frightening. The eerie atmosphere and psychological tension were certainly effective, but the horror elements didn’t fully resonate with me in a way that felt truly scary.

That being said, this isn't my genre, so I may not have connected with the horror aspects as much as other readers might. Overall, the book was well-written, with complex characters and an engaging plot, making it a solid read, even if it didn't quite terrify me.

Totally better than the movie, because the reasons for Jack Torrance going insane are more clear. I loved it, and the ending was heaps better than the film's version.

Jack Torrance has recently been hired at the Overlook Hotel after a mishap at his last job, and he's hoping for a fresh start. As he starts working at the Overlook Hotel, strange things start happening. Bushes start moving, he learns about the Overlook's dark past, and the hotel is putting his son in danger.

This is my fifth book I've read from Stephen King, and I think I've just come to realize that Stephen King isn't the author for me.

I really enjoyed the exploration of abuse on alcoholism in this novel, as well as the characters and their relationships, but I was just hoping for so much more from this. I didn't think this book was horrific at all. There were some really scary moments in the book, but a lot of it got undermined by the extremely slow plot and characters. I was really hoping for more of that horror.
