I enjoyed this book a tad bit more than the first book, mainly because this one had a lot more action! I did have a bit of trouble initially due to some pacing issues and how info-dumpy it was, but it sorted itself out and became a super engaging story!

This series just gets better after rereading. I also didn't remember a lot of what happened in this one so it made this reread more exciting. Almost like reading it for the first time again. I just love all of the characters.

Literally nothing happens in this book. I am not going to read the third book, but I imagine you could skip this book entirely and read the third book and only miss a few points.

I picked up this book immediately after finishing Truthwitch because I needed to know what happened! I loved the character growth that took place in this story. That's all - gotta avoid spoilers ;)

This second installment fell flat after the first one. If you thought the first book needed a little more worldbuilding, then this one needed more as well as the story only got more complex with less explanation. What this book really lacked was the chemistry that made the first book fun and feel like an adventure. The lack of interaction between Safi, Iseult, and Merik throughout this book is just disappointing, yet it does leave the reader wanting more and will have me coming back for the conclusion.
Merik is hands down the best part of this book. Iseult and Safi both have their moments where they drive me crazy, both when they are admiring Safi. Aeduan is still a mystery, sort of, but I am curious to hear more of his backstory. However, the development of Merik and the story surrounding him definitely kept me captivated throughout.

An outstanding improvement from the first book of the series. I am amazed by the quality of this particular book - there is a maturity in the story telling that I enjoyed especially.
I still love the simplicity yet deep and dynamic magic system and the political landscape. While the second can be developed further, I still like the complexity of this world. Really well done!
I still struggle with some characters, I still feel like some of them are not as interesting as they can be. Yet, this is a significant improvement and what bothered me from book #1 was absent (also because the dynamic really could not be developed specifically).
I cannot wait to delve into [b:Sightwitch|35481848|Sightwitch (The Witchlands, #2.5)|Susan Dennard|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1503985079s/35481848.jpg|56877251] and then dive into [b:Bloodwitch|39863277|Bloodwitch (The Witchlands, #3)|Susan Dennard|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1537551594s/39863277.jpg|41438287].
