This one was less of a hot steamy romance and had more real life moments throughout it. I loved the fact that the plot points weren't predictable (or they didn't occur the way I would've thought). I think the aspect of this book I loved the most was the fact that Jake cried more than once and it was okay for him to do so. No one ever teased him for it.

Hooked by Brenda Rothert was published in 2016 as an e-read and is about 215 pages long.

This story, set in modern day Chicago, focuses on a mid-20’s college student who works several jobs to get herself through school, studying business. One of her jobs involves being a maid at an exclusive hotel. That’s where our heroine, Miranda Carr, meets Jake Birch a star player for Chicago’s hockey team. He’s staying in a suite at the hotel for several weeks while his condo is being renovated, and just by chance, Miranda is assigned to clean his rooms. Jake is immediately attracted to Miranda and her disinterest in him as a rich sports star and celebrity is refreshing. As for Miranda, she can’t deny Jake’s good looks and magnetism, but she’s been burned by a former boyfriend who cheated and she’s well aware of Jake’s reputation as a player, in more than one meaning of the word. Despite that, the two do begin to grow closer and peel away all the barriers each has built up to keep from having a relationship. The only problem is, both are not being entirely open about themselves, especially Jake who is estranged from his family and has become unwillingly involved with another woman who won’t take no for an answer.

I enjoyed this story very much. It was a pretty straightforward romance with believable complications, although I found Jake’s unwillingly involvement with the hockey team owner’s daughter a little over the top. Still Jake and Miranda’s growing romance was very sweet. I didn’t quite believe that he wouldn’t have “closed the deal” with Miranda sooner but once Jake and Miranda do make love, their intimacy is very nice. I would give this story a B/B+ and would certainly read this author again.

I miss Brenda Rothert books. Majority, I like her works. And Hooked does not disappoint me. Miss Rothert always have this ability to telling a story with such sweetness. Her characters are so endearing sweet and love able. If you ever see Maid In Manhattan, Hooked is similar to that movie.

Jake is NFL player who falls for his hotel maid. Jake has a past where he lost someone. It makes him closed off. I like Jake. He is not typical brooding man whore hero. He has this sensitive side of him that makes him so vulnerable. And I like my hero vulnerable. I also like how Miss Rothert contrast Miranda world and Jake world. Jake world has all that money and fame and yet its like a empty shell. Meanwhile Miranda world is working class but full of love.

What I wish that can be improved is the plot. I want the plot involving Hailey much more dramatic instead of just side dish of the main story.

Overall I enjoy this book very much.

I think it was pretty cute as a book, I'm a sucker for cliches and this one was one of these so I kind of enjoyed it. I still thought it was pretty fast and maybe the characters weren't really that deep but I think i fell for Jake too, I really liked Miranda too so it was no big problem with whiny characters.

I loved this story, it hooked me in from the very beginning and kept me totally engaged and entertained throughout.

The two main characters Miranda and Jake were really likable too, even if Jake does come across as an arrogant asshole to start with. However Miranda soon puts him in his place, and I loved the pace at which their relationship develops.

As for the actual story it was sweet with just a little heat. Although personally, I would of liked a little more. It was also full of emotion, drama and certainly by the end it had me adoring and completely loving Jake and I would happily recommend it to others.

I've got to admit - as much as I wanted to love this book - it left me disappointed. All the elements were there, but I don't think it managed to pull itself together. (Although that may be due to the "low-angst" level of the plot)

Now matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't connect to either of the main characters. I wish I had passed on this one, to tell you the truth.

Loved it!

A cute story about a NHL player and a regular girl just trying to make ends meet, working as the housekeeper in the hotel he’s staying at temporarily. Winning her over is a challenge because she’s stubborn and has too much on her plate to worry about a player like him. Following their story was entertaining and fun. Highly recommend.

I randomly picked up a Brenda Rothert book last year, one of her hockey series. I loved that series. This book is no different. It was scorching. I loved both characters. Jake was a little hard to love in the beginning, but he quickly wormed his way into my heart just has he did to Miranda. It was a beautiful story.
