I'm not saying the killer needed to be telegraphed, but it shouldn't be one of those "Oh, there's 10 pages left, we probably should wrap this up now" type endings. I honestly didn't remember where it was mentioned that Jenny and Miles had a child, so the resolution was a bit of a surprise.

I thought I had missed something, because solving the mystery seemed to come out of nowhere. Another great historical mystery in the Maisie Dobbs’ series. This one is set during the Blitz in London and really pulled me into the setting and time period. In her author’s notes Jacqueline Winspear mentions that the stories she heard from her mother and aunts from WW II helped shaped this novel. It really comes through in the writing.
