almost dropped it at paragraph 1 but when I realized WHY it was so badly written I was all in. Such a good short story, the pacing was perfect and the writing lovely

Short and to the point, I can best describe the style as a mixture of poetry and novel writing, which results in musings given structure. The story feels like the inner talk of an every day person, watching the warm world they once knew turn cold in the night and conjuring deep thoughts as they watch, only to then go to bed for their job awaits them the next morning. The commentary on contemporary YA romance novels and the other issues that plague our world was also nice. I really liked it!

Although an interesting take on the loneliness on a big city and the existential crysis of being a young adult, with the comparison between reality and how YA novels portray the world it was not particularly deep or original.

this very short novella captures how it feels to be 20 something with a meh job, no money, living in the city with a dream to do "things other than the things they are doing now".

this is a very sad story about how it feels when your dreams have quietly faded away and you're just working to eat

also a little bit about a vampire

Well written, this was poking fun at all those YA novels that are so popular with sparkly vampires, and girls that thing they aren't pretty until someone tells them they are.

Told from the point of view of an assistant to a literary agent, and the vampire friend who comments on the book she is commenting on. A little sad. A bit philosophical. And very captivating.

Not sure about the ending, which is why it is a four star, instead of a five, but up until then it had me wondering what was going to happen, and I would have read much much more if it had been there.

I'm going to seek out other things that Sarah McCarry has written.

This short story is interesting, but there are flaws in the formatting (it's a little strange), and I'm not entirely sure I understand the plot:
Spoilerit's about an literacy editor who pokes fun in the typical young-adult fantasy trope (particularly those with a romantic subplot with a supernatural creature), but it seemed to imply that she herself was in a romance relationship with a supernatural creature of her own?

And the story ended far too soon.
