Enjoyable book, but I didnā€™t love it as a whole. And I CALLED IT!

Things I loved:Ā
- a protagonist with a disability who is affected by their disability but not defined by it. So refreshing that she was a fully realized person
- the Rhen narrator. Honestly, the book might have been better with just him narrating the whole thing.Ā
- believable reasoning for why someone from our world could ride a fucking horse

Things I did not love:Ā
- How whiny the Harper narrator made her sound sometimes. It made it a lot less believable it was the same character between the narrators.Ā
- The monster narration (so fucking creepy/scary). Could have done without that.Ā
- The parts where it was said Harper was ā€œnot like other girlsā€ *cue vomiting*

thought i wouldn't like it too much at first , but it ended up being really enjoyable! i tend to enjoy fairy tale retellings so i may be biased, but it was a great slowburn and hard to put down :)

I love the fantasy element and how it's a dual pov and with the female lead you truly feel that she is a fish out of water in the fantasy world. Also she has cerebral palsy which gives her a limp but she never lets it define/ makes her whole personality but it is there and she works around it and is still a complete lovable badass.

Okay I could not put it down. I read till 2am in the morning to finish this because I was so encaptured in the story!Ā
I like the story as a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, especially the twist about it that the author put in there. Iā€˜m in love with Harper, the characterā€˜s amazing - I think itā€˜s really well-made how her cerebral palsy is just part of her, how it just blends into everything she does without any effort in the writing visible, or how she learns to stand her ground. I also liked reading about Rhenā€˜s perspective, it was way better than some other two-perspective-stories Iā€˜ve read recently, simply because it was more believable, more human.
I wish we could have seen more of Grey though, he seems like a really interesting character, but what Iā€˜ve seen from the second book, I will get that very soon. I gotta say though, towards the second half and end of the book I still had the feeling
Harperā€˜s love interest could have gone either way. The romance wasnā€˜t as pronounced (and smutty, which in this case I appreciated) as in other cases, so it was not quite clear where the author wanted to go with this - even though it was kinda predictable because thereā€˜s, well, the fairytale? But you never know. And Harper had good, nice, lovely moments with both of them? I loved reading about how they both warmed up to her eventually and became smitten by her personality, the same way yi did. Very cute.
