Had high hopes for this one, but it extremely average and not a lot happened. Hoping to have a better experience with her other books.

I was definitely interested to keep reading, but disappointed that not much really happened. I also found it quite depressing lol. The writing was good

A dive into the life of a troubled woman looking to hard-reset her life and outlook through medicated sleep. You watch her progress into full pill addiction and then turn herself back to her ultimate goal for self-preservation: sleep. Surprisingly hopeful ending and left me thoughtful on her journey.

In “My Year of Rest and Relaxation,” the MCs complex relationships, both with her best friend and toxic ex-boyfriend, create a captivating tapestry of human experience. As she seeks solace in sleep, the toxic dynamics with her ex-boyfriend expose the depths of her vulnerability and lack of self-esteem. Simultaneously, her friendship weaves through the narrative, providing moments of support and contrast to the darker aspects of her life. The author fearlessly explores the intricacies of human connections, making this a riveting journey through pleasure, pain, and self-discovery. 5 stars for its unflinching portrayal of relationships and the quest for healing.

Definitely a difficult read, kind of in a good way. Make sure you’re in a good mental state. Written from narrator’s POV, so there’s lots of internal reflection of what’s going on inside her head while in a extreme depressive state. I definitely see the benefit of this, but sometimes I just wanted to skip over it.
