The illustrations are lovely, but the story did not make a lot of sense to me. Why did Maurice think that the snow was spring? And if he really thought these cold wet flakes were spring, how did he recognize the real spring when he found it?

Maurice the cub is out searching for spring when he should be hibernating. I feel just like Maurice right now, searching for spring but only seeing winter.

I liked this more for the illustrations, as the "hibernating animal who's never seen spring trying to figure out what it is" topic has been done. But this is definitely one of the better takes on the story.

After a story about too much snow, I was anxious to read about spring, so we picked up Finding Spring. The illustrations are what initially drew me to the book and the story was just as charming.

A sweet bear named Maurice really wants to find spring. It's all his friends can talk about and, despite being almost time to hibernate, Maurice is determined to find it. What he finds and believes is spring is completely adorable and resulted in lots of giggles from Elliott. He also noticed the illustrations being different than "typical" illustrations. Mixed-media, made into beautiful collage scenes, they definitely are different then paint or drawing illustrations and I was impressed with his noticing.

The story allowed for us to talk about the different seasons and why winter was different than spring and why Maurice was silly to think that what he found was a sign of spring. It also made this winter-weary mama desperate for some spring sunshine!

Bear is looking for spring, asking animals along the way where he can find it. I thought the story would continue on this path until the weather actually changed into spring. But Bear catches a snowflake and thinks that it's spring. He gathers a ball of snow and brings it to his cave, thinking he's captured spring. When he awakens months later, he finds that the snow is gone, but real spring has arrived. I liked that the story took a trajectory I wasn't expecting, but why didn't anyone explain to Bear the difference between winter and spring? That was a little baffling, but the lovely cut paper illustrations still make it an enjoyable read.

I think this would be fun in a bear storytime or a spring storytime. The story is not too long to read and the cut paper illustrations are really pretty.

A little bear goes searching for spring as his mother and everyone else in the forest starts to prepare for their long winter sleep. I was a little worried this cub was going to get lost and die in the snow. The good news is he *thought* he found spring in the form of a snowflake and quickly took it back to his mom where he fell asleep.

The illustrations are beautiful though!
