Definitely resonated with this book. A must read for anyone who grew up with parents who owned a takeaway. A recommended reading for anyone who loves a Chinese take out. Contains recipes too!

I’ve been wanting to read this for a while now, and was glad for a reason to pick up a copy. A beautiful tale that doesn’t shy away from its truths- good, bad or ugly- and which manages to inspire a sense of nostalgia regardless of one’s own experiences.

A deeply moving and thought-provoking memoir about life behind the takeaway we all know and love. Angela Hui reveals with honesty what it's like to grow up as Welsh-Chinese and the difficulties and xenophobia her family faced. Each chapter ends with a mouth-watering recipe to try which is a needed balance with the heaviness of some topics covered. A wonderful balance of memoir and food writing from a talented debut author
