The Shape of Ideas by Grant Snider is a delight to read. The book is beautifully illustrated with entertaining comics that explore the creative process of generating ideas. The author's insights into the mind of an artist, cartoonist and writer are fascinating. He shares his personal experiences, struggles and triumphs while also inspiring readers to embrace their creativity. The book is organized in a thoughtful and engaging way, making it easy to read in one sitting or to pick up and read in short bursts. All in all, The Shape of Ideas is an inspiring and enjoyable read for anyone who is interested in the creative process.

Det påminner om Austin Kleons ord från en annan bok för struggling-artist-målgruppen: “If you work on something a little bit every day, you end up with something that is massive.”

A philosophy book in disguise, this book took me much longer to read than I expected it to because I regularly would read a few pages and stop to ponder what I had just read. It filled me with a sense of deep appreciation and leads the mind towards thoughtfulness.

"Disclaimer:
You can be anything you want to be! With some natural ability. In the right economy After years of diligent study. Given ideal opportunities. By neglecting other responsibilities. You can be anything you want to be...but can you be everything you want to be?"

"Today I will do nothing but encourage the grass to grow greener, wait for the flowers to unfurl, analyze the ambitions of robins, study the physics of squirrels, read the writing of branches on sky, as the wind turns my unread pages. I will master the pursuit of aimlessness. Today is a holiday dedicated to boredom."

"The Art of Living:
When I was young, I was an idealist. I found beauty, wonder, and meaning everywhere I looked. When I got older, I became a realist. I saw a world of rough edges and difficult truths.
This grew tiresome. I decided to be a surrealist.
Things got pretty weird after that."

Somehow... we rarely appreciate our process itself in getting more creative and let fear overcome to us and makes us overthink then ended in not producing it.

I received this book as an Advanced Reading Copy from the publisher in return for an honest review. This has not impacted on my opinion.

This could be a nice gift for any creative types, people in need of inspiration and/or fuel to keep their creativity going.

Some concepts I personally thought he depicted brilliantly. For example nocturnal ideas and inspiration and "How to Climb a Hill". Some comics I thought were a missed opportunity, like "Message to a Graduate". And many I thought were just cute, quirky, won a giggle from me just because of their simple punnyness (see "The Art of Living"). Unfortunately, even more of the comics I felt just didn't have much point, or I just confused me.

Again, a nice gift for those in the creative field, they likely would get more from it then I did.
