I really appreciated reading this account of life in concentration camps. It's amazing how much faith, the will to live, and human psychology are all intertwined. I really recommend reading Maus if you haven't already done that.

It's so hard to put into this book into words. I remember having to read it in school. My class of 26 was the type of students who would rather be in gym class, rock climbing, than reading a book. Some of them probably rather be stuck in a math test than read a book. There was literally myself and one other girl who read regularly away from class. And, this book made this group of book haters emotional.

It's the memoir of a Holocaust survivor, and so you can't really judge the events or the emotion that went behind it. This book really brings to life the horrors and atrocities that happened during the Holocaust. It's written in such a way that it reminds you that these were real people with real horrors happening to them, and this wasn't hundreds of years ago - so far distant in the past that we tend to forget that these things happened to real people. But, this wasn't far in the past, as far as history is concerned.

I loved this book, and I hope other people read it. It's a reminder about what mankind can do to itself, and why we should try our damnedest to not repeat history.

“ Never shall I forget that night, the first night in camp, which has turned my life into one long night, seven times cursed and seven times sealed....Never shall I forget those moments which murdered my God and my soul and turned my dreams to dust. Never shall I forget these things, even if I am condemned to live as long as God Himself. Never. ”

Heartbreaking, soul crushing, blood-chilling, and undeniably powerful.
