No sé si estoy siendo generosa al darle 4 estrellas en vez de 3 a esta novela, pero en fin... No planeaba leer Girl, Serpent, Thorn originalmente; la portada estaba linda, la sinopsis estaba interesante y el hype era enorme. Al final, me decidí a darle una chance cuando vi que este libro había sido escrito por Melissa Bashardoust, autora de Chicas de Nieve y Cristal, un libro que sin duda me gustó y que me dejó con ganas de leer más de la autora. Girl, Serpent, Thorn fue una experiencia... peculiar.

¿Por qué las 4 estrellas? Objetivamente hablando, creo que esta novela merece una buena puntuación. Es un gran libro, la construcción del mundo es grandiosa (aunque un tanto confusa), los personajes son súper interesantes y la novela te mantiene muy atrapadx. Es de esos libros que enganchan y, si están buscando una buena novela de fantasía juvenil, de seguro les recomiendo esta. En lo personal, siento que esta lectura fue muy inspiradora y creativa para mí como escritora. Siento que fue un flujo importante y precioso y único a mi creatividad y me entretuvo muchísimo la obra de arte creada por Bashardoust. En términos de arte y creatividad, es de esos libros que inspiran la escritura, al menos para mí. Y por eso lo disfruté tanto.

Pero al mismo tiempo, varias cosas me molestaron. Por ejemplo, Girl, Serpent, Thorn es un libro de fantasía épica inspirado en Persia; por más original que sea eso, no entiendo por qué. Siento que la autora solo tomó un lugar en el mapa para llamar la atención. Además, los personajes fueron demasiado heroicos, cuando se prometía una historia de antihéroes y personas moralmente grises. Siento que el material de esta historia era uno inicialmente y luego se quedó en lo que la autora deseaba. No lo sé, me resultó un tanto incoherente y simple.

I really really enjoyed this! I do wish that the author went more in depth with Parveneh and Soraya and their relationship, but aside from that I really liked this!

A fairytale retelling with a powerhouse female lead set in the the beautifully-drawn setting of Atashar (ancient Persia). What I loved most about this story was 1) The strong setting and incredible world-building which brought Soraya and her life before my eyes 2) Character growth - I loved seeing Soraya embrace herself as the story went on 3) One of the most complex villain characters I've read in recent memory. The plot was maybe a tiny bit slow for my taste, but don't let that deter you. Read this one!

I enjoyed reading this book inspired by Persian fairytales. At first, the foreign words confused me and it was hard for me to picture this story in my head, but after a few chapters, it wasn't bothering me anymore.
I loved the plot twist and I wish we got to see more of that. I felt like this book could easily become two books or even three if written well. To me, Azad is probably the most intriguing character and I wanted to read so much more about him and the relationship between him and Soraya.
Soraya's bisexuality was a nice twist, but I felt the relationship between her and the girl felt rushed. I would've liked it more if the story was longer and got more time to explore the relationship.
Apart from this, I kind of found myself wanting to see more from Soraya. Like her giving in to the whole being a monster, but I like how the story turned out.
