The cover:

This is one of my favorite covers because of the pink in it ^_^.

The storyline:

Okay. So the story in this sequel is pretty amazing!

What I love about this series is that each sequel is related to the previous one(s) and at the same time the story is unique. I was intrigued by Nash’s sudden change of moods, how Kaylee noticed something wrong was going on. It was hard to predict the story which is amazing!

At the end, seeing Addison’s comeback was thrilling, Avari’s return on the other hand was creepy.

The writing style of it was awesome, as expected, Rachel does a great job of describing the necessary stuff and leaving the rest for your imagination to work on :).

The characters:

Kaylee is strong as always. She faces her fears even when they’re scary and make her cry (like me). I just wonder how she can stand her cousin Sophie, who’s a total pain?!

Nash surprised me in this sequel, I didn’t expect him to be so selfish and to sacrifice what they had for… well, you’ll have to read the book to understand what I’m talking about ;).

Tod is mainly the hero in this sequel and I think he deserves to be. If there’s anyone who’s truly loyal to love that would be him. He made a huge sacrifice and the consequences were very bad. I love the Reaper!!

Addison’s return was one of the many shocking events in this book and it was a pleasure to see how she reacted in the story. No wonder Tod loves her!

These were mainly the most important characters in this story, in my POV (point of view). I’m not going to mention neither Avari because he’s a pervert nor Emma because the whole story she was whining upon Doug….

My favorite quotes:

Speaking of bloodthirsty hyenas…

A car door slammed in the driveway ahead and my cousin, Sophie, stood next to Scott Carter's metallic-blue convertible, her huge green eyes shadowed dramatically by the streetlight overhead. –Chapter 1

Naturally. Because detention seems like an appropriate reward for someone trying to save her school from a deadly Netherworld toxin, right? – Chapter 5

"Emma?" I backed slowly away from the bed, my phone clenched in my left hand, as a strange, heavy, fluttery feeling settled into my stomach. Like I'd swallowed a swarm of iron butterflies. "Not exactly…" A low, scratchy, unfamiliar voice said as my best friend's mouth moved.

My heart rate exploded and my pulse roared in my ears. "Who, then, exactly?"

"I am Alec. As presented through Emma Dawn Marshall."

As presented…?

Whoa… – Chapter 17

I'd played intermediary between Nash and Avari. The hellion had used me as his own personal walkie-talkie.

And Nash had let it happen. – Chapter 17

Tod, if you're involved in this, I'll kill you! Except you can't kill someone who's already dead.

But I could get him fired…. – Chapter 18

Aaaand here comes the catch… -- Chapter 18

Luck? We were depending on luck?

Nash is so screwed…. – Chapter 18

"Tod! Get your invisible butt down here!" Or up here, or over here, or whichever way he'd have to travel to get to me. – Chapter 19

But more than any of that, I was thankful for the possibility he'd shown me: that a man really could love a woman enough that he'd do anything to protect her. That's how much Tod loved Addy. That's how much I wanted Nash to love me. -- Chapter 26

Conclusion:

This is by far my 2nd favorite sequel in the series. I can’t wait to get started on My Soul To Steal, but first, I need to finish Reaper .

Wow! I didn't know that the series would just keep getting better and better. I was surprised by the supernatural take on addiction to drugs. Who would have thought to use Demon's Breath as a drug to get high?

In the third book in the series, Kaylee and Nash discover that someone is selling Demon's Breath to teens at their school as a new drug called Frost. What the teens don't know is that Demon's Breath is not only addicting, but it is also fatal and brain damaging. If you take too much you can start to have delusions permanently and even die. With the help of Tod and other familiar faces from previous books, Nash and Kaylee need to figure out who is behind the sale of Demon's Breath and stop it before it spreads further. What Kaylee doesn't expect is how easily someone close to her becomes addicted to it and covers it up.

My heart broke with this book when the reveal was given to the reader. I picked up on the clues and even knew it was going to happen, but it didn't stop my heart from breaking at the pain it caused for Kaylee and for the reader. I didn't know how the author was going to redeem this person and I couldn't figure out what this meant for the main characters of the book. With the addition of new players in the fight for souls, you will find yourself confused on who to cheer for because you start to like all of them even more. I even fell a little harder for sweet Tod when he goes corporeal and defends Kaylee near the end of the book.

I can't wait to see what is going to happen in the next book! I need to know how the fallout from this book is going to work out in the next one. I need more Nash, Tod, Kaylee and Emma! A series that still grips me from page one up until the end!

Dann lieber ohne verstellte Stimmen!

I feel for Kaylee in all she goes through in this book. I also feel bad for Nash ..he tries so hard to be strong and not let Kaylee know what has happened but I also cant believe he lets the Demon take her over just to get a fix. But I love this because in real life that is how drugs take people over this book may be about banshees but it deals with real life stuff.

In all honesty, I was dreading reading this book. Because up to this point this series has sort of been like eating Taco Bell. You don't do it for a while and then one day it randomly sounds good so you try it and a half an hour later you regret your life and all your decisions. In other words, the first two books sucked, why the hell did I keep going?

I don't know. I'm an idiot.

BUT! This book was actually good! Somewhere between the second and third book, Rachel Vincent learned how to tell a decent story! I was totally into the plot of this one, the characters were slightly more enjoyable (I didn't even hate Kaylee! Who I usually want to kick in the face!), there was sufficient enough Tod to make me very happy. Nash is finally shown to be the raging douchecanoe that I always knew he was. I actually don't have any complaints.

Please let the fourth one be decent, please let the fourth one be decent...

Review for SSRC: 4/2/2012

Kaylee is one of the strongest protagonists I have ever read about. Reading about her struggles in this one broke my heart. Seriously guys, she needs a break!!! But that's the thing with Rachel Vincent's characters, they are seriously flawed (Just look at Nash for proof), when you think they have a strength they also turn out to be their weakness (Kaylee's loyalty), and they have to work for everything. Their lives aren't easy and only get harder. This makes them admirable in my eyes and Kaylee a true heroine to look up to. She never gives up even though all hope seems to be lost.

As for Nash in this one...don't get me started. I still love him because he is broken and conflicted and I want to fix him up. But then...*sigh*...He just had to do everything that he did. Tod was always one of my favorite characters but in this one he became so much more. He is so sweet and perfect even if Kaylee doesn't completely realize it. I never really wanted Kaylee with Tod but I think they are perfect best friends for each other. Following Spoiler is in reference to If I Die
Spoiler It wasn't until IID where I completely fell in love with Tod! He is so perfect but I still don't really like Kaylee and Tod together. I think Kaylee needs to be on her own for awhile to figure things out...

In this exciting third book Kaylee’s fight against the Netherworld is a little more personal. Nash’s friends are getting high on Demon’s Breath, slowly but surely rotting their souls. Not only that but they could be infecting their girlfriends too, which are Emma and Sophie. They seem to be getting it from a Netherworld dealer who brings the substance inside balloons, a trick they learned from Kaylee. She plans to bring a stop to the whole operation, but dealing with a suddenly pushy and moody Nash is really getting to her. Add to the mix how her powers seem to be going out of control – now she can’t even fall asleep without crossing over – and you’ve got one explosive story in your hands. Kaylee will need the help of some suspicious sources, and Tod, to be able to save the day.

At all times the possibility of things going to hell (literally) keeps you engaged. Kaylee is as fierceless as ever, and even more here where she has to make some really tough decisions. Though there wasn’t much Tod in this book, I couldn’t help but love each of his appearances. Haha the phrase of the day is “Damn it Tod!” There were a lot of laugh-out-loud moments for me, but also many sad ones. Although I never really rooted for him, the end really tore my heart apart into little pieces. I can’t wait to start the next one to see how this all gets fixed or further damaged.
