I read this to preview it for my two oldest girls. Not bad. I would definately consider reading more. It's funny to me that this is the same woman who wrote the Hunger Games :-)

Revisiting the first in this series because my kids are finally old enough for it, and, rabid Percy Jackson fans that they are, they are SOOOO hungry for funny adventure. So far, listening to this in the car, they are alternately spellbound and laughing like something is actually tickling them.

I think one of the keys to writing funny adventure is dialogue, and Suzanne Collins has such a gift for it. She develops speech patterns for each of her underground races, for Boots, and leaves Gregor all the cute sarcastic lines every kid wishes he had the wit to say.

I think my library should re-order new shiny copies of these books, and I think it's time to give 'em a new push.

I read this book almost ten years ago and gave it one star. My summary wasn't very kind, either. So after someone else posted a comment recently that... well, wasn't very kind, either, I re-read the title. It was just fine- an exciting fantasy for younger readers. Solid three stars. So it made me wonder...

I read through alot of my one star book summaries, and I found reviews that made me cringe. They weren't all nice, and they weren't all helpful. I think it's good for us to remember that while books don't change, we, as readers do. I plan to do some revisions on past reviews- because what better time has there ever been to realize that we can disagree on things, but being able to do so civilly and with respect is what keeps us human. I hope I have never offended someone with a negative review, but I fear I have. I hope to do less of that in the future.

This is the first series I can remember actively having to wait for each of the books to come out. It was also the first series I can remember ever reading in entirety. It holds such a special place in my heart as a reader and it is blast getting to reread it.

Like a lot of us, I only read this book because it's by Suzanne Collins and I enjoyed the Hunger Games series.

It couldn't be any more different than the Hunger Games series.

Basically it's about a kid who discovers an underground world where random princesses ride mice and cockroaches talk, just because his sister gets kidnapped or something. So basically the whole book is a search for the sister, and the most emotional part of the entire story is when a cockroach dies. And then there's this really, really irritating girl named... "Luxa" or something. Honestly, I don't remember half of their names.

Maybe young children would enjoy this. But I certainly don't.

The book do be bussin even though the age range for this book is probably around 6th grade. The little sister is my favorite character. She’s two and she’s amazing.

She made me cry over the death of a cockroach. That has to count for something.

Ein tolles Hörspiel, zu dem ich immer wieder zurückkehre, obwohl ich schon längst nicht mehr zur Zielgruppe gehöre.

I am definitely way out of the age range for the target audience of this but for who this is intended for I think it’s a pretty good series. I was looking for a ‘background audiobook’, just something for some background noise while I dealt with some paperwork and found myself paying more attention to the book than the work. I’ve decided to just finish the series for the fun of it, this is probably the only one I’ll actually review but overall this seems like a decent series so far. This is definitely something I would have loved as a young reader, it’s got adventure, interesting characters and storyline and a main character that I would have definitely wanted to root for as a kid.
