The author change was very obvious. I was not able to get back into it.

This was my favorite from the second trilogy.
An evil (bitch) sister? You got me there.
A powerful book full of dark magic? I’m in.
Casey faces not just her dark sister, who is more powerful than she is, but also the witch hunters, whom have secret resources to hurt Casey’s friends.
And the circle has to face a tragic death, amd nothing will be the same.
Wait for the twist end. I was like: yeah, it was obvious that she will betray you!

So this book took a few turns I wasn’t expecting but it has definitely added to it and made it so much more attention grabbing. I feel so bad for Diana, I want a happy ending for her so bad. I definitely can’t wait to see what happens next!

I own all six books in the series but had listened to the first four on audiobook. I finished them in like a week because I was obsessed. I enjoyed this book because of the plot twists that continued to happen and I did not see them coming. That being said I did feel that there were a couple of plot holes throughout. For example, why did Scarlett just give up the master tools after stealing them from Cassie and the circle? Is she able to see the future and she just knew that the circle would do what she wanted?
I also wish that Diana and Faye would have been more rounded out as characters. It felt a bit repetitive their competition and their relationship not evolving felt inauthentic given everything that happened in the story.

It is a good book, but I can't really enjoy it the way I would due to its "magic". I was expecting more elaborate spells and styles of magic but almost everything in the book is as if someone is reading from a bad copy of the book of shadows of their wiccan friend.
Other than the fact that the spells are extremely simplistic, to the point that seem childish "example calling to mother earth and the moon to beat a baddie), the author doesn't even put the effort to make them sound like and at least rhyme! Just random words as if it is a speech.
And another magic related thing that puts me off, is that the spells that are in Latin, are so bad, as if the author used google translate or a bad dictionary to write them.
Still a good read, but I have a feeling that the Author should focus on crime and mystery books instead of fantasy/magic.
