An insightful analysis of Mary Magdalene’s role in the early foundations of Christianity and how her unique position as a female disciple and apostle was both revered and challenged by the male-dominated Church in the centuries following Jesus’ death.

This was pretty boring. I wish there had been more storytelling involved. Also, it probably isn't a good fit to be an audiobook because of all of the parenthetical citations.

A scholarly look at a figure much maligned by mainstream Christian denominations. Theologian Valerio digs deep into the Gnostic Gospels as well as a broad survey of poetry, art, fiction, and theological treatments in several languages and across a broad swathe of history to present a refreshing version of Mary Magdelene as the "Apostle of Apostles," a leading figure in the early Christian church, and a supremely important saint in her own right. Fascinating stuff from a slim volume that covers a lot of ground.
