Nope, still do not like Lacan and still do not fully agree with Zizek, but I'm grateful for the clarity. Even if he is not the postmodern mastermind he's been repeatedly accused of, his worldview is * p r o b l e m a t i c* for a number of reasons such as not really putting a consistent anthropology, where everything else stems from. Even if he takes Freud again and claims to be his true interpreter, it's as if, well, the whole thing is dead and reductive.

Many Zizekian concepts are reutilized here as other readers noted, and his analysis of Christianity leaves much to be desired, but at least the references he used were way more familiar to me.

Brilliant. In truth I recognised a lot of the jokes and stories from his lectures but they are good jokes and good stories and I didn't mind them being repeated.

Absolutely amazing introduction to Lacan. Zizek explains things in a really engaging way by using his unique sense of humour and references to film. There were plenty of times that I was confused during reading it, (I didn't even know who Lacan was, a friend just recommended him lol), but I always came to an understanding because Zizek has such a thorough knowledge of Lacan and an incredible ability to explain complicated ideas in a simpler way. If you're even remotely interested in Lacan, this is about as good as it gets for an introduction to some of his key ideas.

In writing about Lacan, Zizek writes about himself. A great introduction to two titans of post-Freudian thought

"Issues in Criticism" -University of Saint Thomas, required text. Master's in English.

I read about half of this and skimmed the rest. Zizek does an AWESOME job making Lacan readable. He uses TONS of examples per chapter that really break down the ideas really well. There is a little bit of a danger in his style, though, of oversimplifying. Sometimes I think Zizek was a bit too simplistic and that I wasn't getting the full understanding of the complex Lacanian theory.
