Such a delightful sequel to Sheets! Thematically, this story has grown with its characters and focuses on the complicated middle school dynamics that lead to bullying, social isolation, and the importance of teaching our children to ask for help when there doesn’t seem like a way out. I think there was some room for handling the suicidal ideation with further care. The other students talking about it felt like an opportunity for rumor spreading in a 8th grade setting, and I have some issue with the main bully only recognizing her harm once suicide was threatened. It should not have to get that bad for you to recognize how you are hurting someone else. Otherwise, I appreciated the inclusion of how complacency and being a bystander is still bullying. Overall, I so enjoyed this sequel and am still in love with Thummler’s whimsical and lush illustration style.

I knew going into this that I was going to love it - I adored Sheets, the first book in this series - but I was not expecting how much I would love this.
The art is, as always, stunning. I love the colour palette, and the way colours flow from scene to scene.
The story was... intense and emotional and brilliant. It was real and raw in a way you don't see many people approach 8th graders. It had elements of hope and elements of loss and it all blended to effortlessly together to create a story that truly felt REAL (with ghosts, of course haha).
I love this series, I would highly recommend to graphic-novel lovers and non-graphic novel readers alike.
CONTENT WARNING: Loss of a parent, absent parent, bullying, fat shaming, suicidal thoughts, mental health concerns, isolation, peer pressure, harrassment.
