I really enjoy the family dynamics that Karen brings to the table. There's a really good balance to how they work, especially in the mandalore/ boba fett segments. I'm interested in seeing how things go from here. I'm over halfway through this series now So we should be wrapping up pretty soon.

The Boba Fett storyline is a treat. The plot moves along significantly in this installment. Jacen is becoming a bit annoying even as the villain, but Ben is becoming more likable.

I think I'd like this story a bit better if we didn't know Jacen was Mara's murderer. I think there's going to be shock at his betrayal, and Traviss (and the other authors, but I feel like Traviss is carrying the weight of his story) is doing a great job of covering his tracks and seeding the others' doubts. I wish we could experience that with the characters, but I understand why they can't take that approach here.

Wow. I am really enjoying this series; each book has more great intrigue and stuff happening to our favorite characters. I wish I had been able to read this when it first came out, before I'd heard a spoiler of the major plot point ;-( but even knowing ahead of time what was going to happen, didn't entirely spoil my enjoyment of seeing how it was going to happen. I wanted a little more Han and Leia than we got, but that's a minor quibble. On to the next book!

Well this is the first Legacy of the Force book I am reading. Let me begin that this is not the first book in that series, this is more half way through. The Galaxy is very much different than what I last read (which would be the Republic Commandos).

I mean Boba Fett the bounty hunter is old, there is the Galactic Alliance, Han/Leia Solo's child is Jacen Solo (and Anakin Solo had died before that), Luke and Mara's son 14 year old Ben Skywalker is on GAG missions (he might be the next Sith Lord though, way down the Star Wars line).

Everything here is kinda new for me, its the other 'era'.

I thought that the stories were abit drawn out. But then Karen Traviss is great at writing charactter development and action scenes. Sometimes it did get reptitite (for example Mara's attempt at dissolving Lumiya which could have been solved in one scene, but went on for 3 scenes I'd say).

Now with this book done I have to read the next ones (or the ones before). It is an interesting addition to the SW Galaxy series, and I wish to make myself more familiar with this. However I need that connection between the end of Empire Strikes Back to Legacy of the Force.

All in all, a good read!

Alright. So it's definitely the best book of the series so far and it's probably the best Star Wars book I've read since darksaber if you go chronologically. But I really would just give it a 4.5 (which obviously isn't possible). The story was compelling and intriguing and kept you wanting to read more. However, it felt very forced to me (pardon the pun). I didn't really believe the things that were happening and I felt like the author was pushing things to happen instead of finding a more organic way. I'm not sure maybe it was just me. But I still loved it. It was a great read. Still don't really know how Jacen just up and decided to be sith so fast. At first it was for tenel ka and allana but at the end he admits that he knows once they find out about him they'll be disgusted and he's just like oh well! So... What's his motive now? Again, forced. But yeah. It was a good read.

I have mixed feelings about Sacrifice.
On the one hand, it was painful because I already knew the titular sacrifice that was going to occur. But the actual execution of that event was very well done, and I think that Traviss handled it very well.

My mixed feelings boil down to this: I'm not a Traviss hater, but I can see, to a degree, where some of their points come from. I feel that she did a very good job on the sections of the story which directly related to the overarching plot of Legacy of the Force. However, the Boba Fett storyline felt invasive.
Each of the three authors of this series have B-plots or aspects of the A-plot which they favor, but Traviss' Fett story arc feels the least integrated. It is interesting in its own way, and feel like it would operate decently well as a stand alone work, but feels invasive when switched to in the middle of the more tightly-knit plot threads. Some of the action does have its relevance on the main plot, such as the antagonism between Fett and Jacen, or the
Spoilerdiscovery of new beskar veins on Mandalore
, but a lot of it is a personal story for Fett which is a bit too removed to fit into place in the middle of this book.
That being said, I recall enjoying the Fett story in Bloodlines. There, it seemed there was a strong parallel in the theme of family and relationships with the Solo family and Fett's family. Here, two books later and more distant from the plot, I had trouble getting back into it.
Again, Traviss did a good job on the primary plot sections, and I give her credit to that. I've heard comment that she tends to glorify Mando and thug-ize Jedi, but I felt her portrayal of the Jedi was well done here. As for her Mando favoritism, I'm hesitant to call Mary Sue on it, but some more actual flaws and screw ups would help. Characters are more awesome when they aren't just "cool and awesome guys and gals".

Despite knowing what was going to happen in this book, I tried to be objective, but found ultimately that Kathy Traviss' love of Mandolorians and lack of skill in writing the women of Star Wars (unless they are Mando's) just frustrated the heck out of me.

There were some positive moments, but I wish someone would have taken a the time to let her know that there are other ways to address family members (other then Sweetheart, which is def. not the way Mara Jade would ever refer to Luke.)

Lets not get me started on the 'big' moment of the book--which I won't spoil for anyone other then to say it was lame, weak, and disappointing. If the sacrifice had to happened, why couldn't they do it with more style and in a more fitting manner to give this particular character his/her due?
