Ahhhh the Pelt conflict was finally resolved! I wish Sookie had at least let Eric and the others kill Sandra - she's an obnoxious twat. I was kind of thinking that Patrick Furnan had maybe orchestrated the whole thing, seeing as the were at the police station had such contempt for her, but I'd totally forgotten about the Pelts at that point.

I kinda figured all along that Sookie had had fairy blood in her, it would be a bit degrading though to learn that people are only attracted to you because of your blood, and the magical influences it has over people. Interesting to learn though that angels, sprites, etc all descend from fairies, and that demons are apparently goblins too? I feel like Charlaine Harris needs to create her own encyclopedia for the Sookie verse!

Not sure how I feel about Quinn at the moment, he kind of bores me to be honest. Even though he's a shifter so this sounds weird, he acts too human to even remotely amuse me. I have to admit that I was also kind of disturbed to learn that the Queen was turned when she was about 15. Even though she's been alive for centuries, I can't help but feel like I'm witness to statutory rape -_-

2.5⭐️ Interesting enough but the plot was allll over the place. Not crazy about Quinn either—she tells him to stop kissing her in an early chapter and he doesn’t and argues that her mouth is saying one thing and her body is saying something different??? Nooo, babe. Also, Bill please fuck off.

I think there must be a short story that was published in between this book and the last, but due to Ms Harris' love of exposition down to every little meaningless detail, I don't think it's necessary to go and seek it out.

There's times when I'm reading these books when I'm sure Sookie is about to discover a severed head or something in her coffee canister because the story is going into such intimate detail into her morning routine, but no - she's always just making her coffee.

Anyway, this is the one where Sookie heads to New Orleans, meets the Queen of Louisiana, gets involved in a variety of different plots, some of which don't actually get resolved or appear to lead anywhere (or perhaps they do in future books). Also, we meet Quinn, the new love interest, who has a lot of chemistry with Sookie and is a bit of a blank slate otherwise.

This did feel like a bit of a placeholder in the series - none of the characters or storylines progress much. I'll definitely keep reading though, as I'm a bit addicted to listening to this series while I do chores around the house.
