This is Baldwin at the height of his powers, masterfully weaving together themes of sexuality, love, loss, religion, race, and family. A meditation on the human condition, written with care and breathtaking skill. Baldwin makes you fall so hard for his characters, live in their world, feel their joys, pains, and everything in between - partly because you know it’s his joy and pain. Honestly an absolute all-timer for me that I can’t wait to go back to one day.

Perhaps because of its length, the intensity of this faltered. Perhaps because in relation to Another Country, nothing is intense
