I wish the originals were still available, but I enjoyed this story as a graphic novel far more than I expected to. I needed a comfort read selection and this fit the bill.

I grew up with the BSC books, but y'all it doesn't matter if you did or not because this graphic novel is SO CUTE. I loved it! The cartoony art style with bendy arms was instantly charming as all heck, and it really blends together with the original BSC vibe so well. I love that the girls look and feel like kids, and the artist captured the unique charm of each character. There are highs and lows, new friendships are born and grow, and come in, the BSC has arrived! This is fantastic for long time fans and new fans alike. Will 100% read the entire series!

No rating because I am not the target audience and it is impossible for me to imagine how this might read to a child unfamiliar with the original series. Very simple language and to-the-point narration which meant that there was no intrigue, tension, surprise or depth of emotion, even though some quite weighty issues were raised (like anorexia). It has been long enough since I read the original series that I can't remember if this is what that was like too, and I loved the original series so maybe children enjoy the simplicity. It was a cute nostalgia hit for me though!

Solid way to revisit some of my favorite books from when I was a young reader. I wish I still had the original copies in my library, but this is a great way for new readers to meet Kristy, Claudia, Mary Anne, and Stacey!

Full Rating (out of 10 possible): 6.000 (based on a modified CAWPILE system)
Romance level (out of 5 possible): 0 (not a romance)

This one failed to hook me in any way. It just all feels too menial. I’m not the right reader for this series. Love the artwork, though.

{My thoughts} – I may be one of few people from my generation that has never actually read the original books by Ann M. Martin. I did how however watch a few episodes of the television adaptation years ago when it was airing. I don’t even recall if it was on for more then a season or not but that would have been back in the 1990’s. That was the first time I’d ever really been introduced to The Baby-Sitters Club.

Kristy’s Great Idea is about a girl that comes up with a business opportunity for her and her close friends. The idea is that they create a club of baby-sitters so that when people in the neighborhood need a sitter they can call them. There ends up being for girls in the club and they all work around each other’s schedules to help make sure that everyone that needs a baby-sitter gets a baby-sitter.

This book also goes over some challenging issues that youth faces. The biggest being responsibility. Baby-sitting is a huge responsibility and sometimes you can end up in over your head. It discusses topics such as divorce, lying, diabetes, single parents, loss of a parent, parents getting remarried and more. I think all of the things discussed in this book are important issues that need to be addressed even today in our modern society.

I really like how the text and the illustrations go together so nicely in this book. The illustrations help the reader to better understand the book and what is going on. It’s an east to follow storyline and I am sure that even the most reluctant reader will be able to enjoy this book.
