The interesting characters were not fleshed out enough and the main protagonist was seemingly not doing anything to help herself except complain.

Most of the story was not very exciting and nothing really happens or picks up until 80% of the way and then it does get faster and you can see how the story is pacing it’s way for book 2. And yes, I do want to read the next book!

The twist was very predictable so I was disappointed there.

If I hadn’t read The Cruel Prince trilogy I may not have had as high expectations perhaps.

The world building is consistent with the Fae world that Black has already explored in her other stories and it is wonderfully wielded into this story too.

solo disfruté los primeros dos capitulos y los últimos tres, además de los flashbacks, de ahí en fuera no hay nada rescatable PERO hay potencial para que el siguiente libro sea bueno

Really enjoyed the scheming that goes on in this book as well as Wren’s character. She was definitely a character easy to love. I love the elements of dark fantasy and always visualize these stories as if directed by Guillermo del Toro in my mind. The pacing is a bit slow and there are moments that feel don’t serve any point in moving the plot forward, but overall was still an enjoyable read and look forward to reading the 2nd book.

wren’s story is soothing and shattering at the same time the part of me that’s still lonely and love starved. those last chapters were painful to read— i found so much of myself in wren. her rage is mine, as well as her desperation. i love to find pieces of myself in the books i read.
My greatest weakness has always been my desire for love. It is a yawning chasm within me, and the more I reach for it, the more easily I am tricked. I am a walking bruise, an open sore. If Oak is masked, I am a face with all the skin ripped off. Over and over, I have told myself that I need to guard against my own yearnings, but that hasn’t worked.
