I should also add that this book is called SKIN PRIVILEGE in the UK and other territories. My US publisher felt that Beyond Reach would be a better title, so we went with that here. Same book, same story, same words except for that color/colour thing.

I started reading the Grant County series after reading the Will Trent series, so while I knew what was going to happen, I read the Grant County series waiting for that other Jeffrey sized shoe to drop. I had too many questions at the end that really just resulted in massive frustration.

I have really mixed feelings about this one. I tend to think it’s a shade under 4 stars but I ended up enjoying it a lot so I went higher rather than lower. I still hate Lena but at least I understood her motivations in this book a little more. I actually really liked reading about her background and where she came from and I think, given how much I dislike her character, I really enjoyed the fact that she had been so horribly wrong in her feelings about and her treatment of her uncle, Hank. I didn’t mind the death that came at the end of the book but I think that was because I accidentally stumbled across that piece of information beforehand when I had been trying to decide which series of Karin Slaughter’s books I should read first. So it wasn’t really shocking and therefore not terribly anger inducing. The thing I liked least was how the author played with the timeline. It made it confusing if you didn’t pay strict attention to the days listed at the opening of each chapter. Overall though a good book and a solid way to end her Grant series. I’m looking forward to reading the next series.

I could sense what was coming but GOD. What a brutal ride. I’m also a Lena Adams hater for life. If she has one hater left it’s me if she has no haters I’m dead.

Okay but no. Don’t tell me I just read through 6 books in this series just for it to end like that. Absolutely not.

A+++ The final installment in Slaughter’s Grant County series did not disappoint. This book was fast paced, gripping, surprising and heart wrenching. My favorite in the series.

Was never a fan of Jeffrey, but man... that ending.
