Meet Me in Cockleberry Bay by Nicola May

I enjoyed the first book, but this book did not feel very complete to me. I love the community feeling of this book, but there were definitely a few flaws. Some stories in the storyline felt uncomplete and could have been worked out a bit more. I was very annoyed that she was drinking constantly in this book and the stupid decisions she made because of the alcohol. It felt like everyone had to fill in her life, everyone had to explain everything about her life as if she could not think for herself.

The Cockleberry Bay series is a trilogy of books by Nicola May, all set in the fictional Devon seaside town of Cockleberry Bay. I would have written a separate review for each book, however as with general romance/chick lit, they all follow mostly the same plot structure - our main character Rosa and faithful pooch Hot the Dachshund find themselves in a pickle, get drawn in to other local character's dramas, fall in love, solve the local dramas and everything works out at the end.

Nothing really happens plot wise. The whole storyline consists of a big misunderstanding and the depression Rosa is dealing with. By the time the story comes to conclusion, everything is back to normal so it was like nothing happened and the book was a waste of time.

This is the second book that is set in Cockleberry Bay. Personally I would recommend reading the first book prior to this one to get the most enjoyment but the author does cover a lot of what went in the previous book in this one so readers won’t feel too lost.

It was so lovely to be back with the characters again and being a dog lover I especially love Hot the sausage dog. He is such a cutie and if possible, I adored him even more by the time I got to the end of this story. I’m so glad that Rosa has him in her life as well as the incredible good friends that she has made in the area.

It’s always great to be able to follow up with characters from a book so was good to see how things were going for Rosa now she is newly married and everything was very much on the up for her. Sadly things seem to have hit a rocky patch already and Rosa is in for a bumpy ride where she makes some discoveries about herself.

Meet Me in Cockleberry Bay is another delightful read in the series of which I can’t wait to read more! The characters are very much becoming like family to me and I so enjoy reading of the friendships in this small community that is set in a wonderful location that has me wanting to up and leave the city life. A heart-warming and engaging read.

Although it is technically winter in some parts of the novels, her two books just screams summer reading for me (and you know that I don’t typically have season-based reads !). While it deals with a quite heavy subject, Alcoolism, it remains a light and easy read; however succeeding at making you go through various feelings and at time, giving you the best little life lessons through Rosa’s journey.

It was lovely to re-visit Cockleberry Bay, along with all the loving characters. I can’t say that I loved this one more than the first one though, but I definately love them both and will re-read them in the future!
