Just wasn’t grabbed, wanted more eel science and less flimsy supposition.

I really enjoyed the science and history sections exploring our knowledge of the eel! The family memoir was nice too. I was less excited about the philosophical sections waxing rhapsodic about the mystery of the eel... a bit pretentious imo. Still an interesting and educational read!

Cortito, asequible, muy ligero. Me habría encantado que metiera más datos técnicos sobre las anguilas pero que los entrelace con vivencias de su infancia y reflexiones seudo-filosóficas está guay también.

kind of just made me sad but also, astounding use of literally unrelated to eels stories. for example, a quote:
"nana believed in god. she also believed in gnomes"
this book is supposed to be about EELS. ok
"nana believed in god. she also believed in gnomes"
this book is supposed to be about EELS. ok

I never knew much about eels, so I was intrigued to learn from this book. I was not disappointed. The ending had me so emotional.

Half memoir, half eel facts, but anyways with a focus on humans. I had no idea the eel was so interwoven with our history, and there is still so much we don't know. Beautifully written, made me tear up. Highly recommend.
