I never knew much about eels, so I was intrigued to learn from this book. I was not disappointed. The ending had me so emotional.

Half memoir, half eel facts, but anyways with a focus on humans. I had no idea the eel was so interwoven with our history, and there is still so much we don't know.  Beautifully written, made me tear up. Highly recommend.

I really really liked this. I never knew eels were so fascinating (at least, the European eel described here). The lifecycle is so complex, and science knows so little!! Even Freud spent his early career researching eels. We’ve still never even seen European eels mate. So wild. I also loved how the author tied in stories of his childhood/life into the science and history of eels. Highly recommend for nerds like me

So different from what I expected, this was a much more personal book than the informative read I expected and I enjoyed every minute of it. More than a history of the eel, this is a tribute to author’s father, and a beautiful one at that.
