This book is in Newtā€™s pov. It is set in the middle of the third book. I like Newt more than Thomas

My advice to anyone who wants to read it: read it for the nostalgia, not the quality. That said, the last two chapters and the epilogue are great and made me remember why I was so invested in the series as a kid. I just wish it was written better, as Dashner relied a lot on telling over showing, which is a poor move when trying to describe a descent into madness.Ā Ā
May not be a spolier, but I want to be safe. The signs of Newt's growing "insanity" have brief mentions in the first half, but only at halfway through is there any sort of progress on this front, annd it feels extremely abrupt. In short, him becoming a Crank is not paced well.

Such a nice little additional story to the character of Newt in the series.

I havenā€™t read the maze runner books in years but got this book when it came out and since reading this book I felt like I wanted a re-read of the original trilogy! This shows more of Newtā€™s character and his battles within himself as he has the flare and how he sees others with it. This shows Newt selflessly putting himself aside in order to help others and it has me loving him all over again

I felt like this could have been longer however, it was a heartfelt novella that captured the escene of his character

I was gonna give this book 4.5 stars after reading the ending and I thought it was a beautiful ending. But then the epilogue came and it kinda ruined it for me, still solid 4 stars tough.
The epilogue was just a bit of here are all the answers to all your questions bye. But I donā€™t know it felt a bit out of place for me.
Pro: I loved loved LOVED reading from Newtā€™s point of few and his emotions and opinions in a way we never have before.
Con: why did he leave Jonesy that was such a bitch move. That guy helped you out big time Newt, leaving him after everything was messed up imo.

It was a fast and immersive read, I donā€™t think Iā€™ve ever finished a book this fast. In fact I know Iā€™ve never finished a book this fast. It was a great read and I recommend it and I would read it again, probably.

Update two hours later: Iā€™ll give it 4.5 starsāļø after all, it was a good story, really sucked me in and Iā€™m still thinking about it so it deserves that half star even though I didnā€™t really like the epilogue
