I loved newts character so it was nice to have a novella dedicated to just his story. But I wasn’t too bothered with it. I thought I would enjoy it more than I did. It was a good short read though.

So basically, it's an alternative ending of newt's life.
Instead of staying with "Tommy and the others", he leaves so to not have them see him loosing his mind.
On the way, he met a woman (keisha) and her child and they're gonna become his family as he realises his last mission: bring them back to their OWN family even if it's the last thing he does.
I found the book strangely sweet, the character of Keisha was really loveable and her role of big sister/mother to newt was wholesome to read.
We follow through newt's pov as he slowly looses his mind and starts to remember stuff from his past which is something that lacked (in my opinion) in tdc.
The writing is simple but not unpleasant, and it's pretty fast to read.
Overall okay, probably won't ever read it again but it was a nice experience. Also, newtmas is real, the last line of that book proves it to me idc.

I could expect what will happen to me when I decide to pick this book as my next read. But still, I am not ready when it broke me into pieces. I feel lonely for NEWT, I feel empty because I couldn't help him. I feel sorry that he was not immune like the others. And I could feel his anger, could feel how the Flare consumed him slowly. I could feel how desperate he was. And that ending... I cried.
