I am fascinated with the supernatural when it comes to the fiction (books, movies and TV series) so wanted to set that as a caveat. Something about the Victorian age gothic and the seance is spooky in a good way. In this novel, Elizabeth has been asked by a friend to look into a medium that is making money by speaking to the dead on the behalf of those still alive. Arthur Conan Doyle lost his son in the war and turned to the supernatural to make contact with him again. I was thinking of this, and also my own grief. I lost my grandma, and would do anything to have 5 more minutes with her. In those lost moments of grief, I could see how I would look for anything/anyone who could give me five more minutes. I think those feelings followed me into this book, and I just had strong emotions. I liked this novel, but something did keep me from rating it higher. I am sad I have caught up in the series and now have to wait for the next book.

i love this series. not as much of elizabeth and gideon together in this book but there were enough little moments here and there to make it satisfying. this was an entertaining instalment with a clever premise that gives elizabeth a personal motivation while still being quite light-hearted. definitely will be a comfort read and if i'm being honest, i want to go back and reread the other books heh

This was a very enjoyable book! I loved the premise & how it was based on real historical happenings. I liked getting to see the main characters growing & changing from the earlier books. I wouldn’t mind there being a bit more balance in character & plot because it’s definitely plot heavy.

As fun as all the others. I did not get the same feeling of actual danger to our characters in this one, and frankly there isn’t much of a mystery, but it’s still fun.

This latest entry in the series is one of the strongest, highlighting all our favorite characters and introducing a few more. After a couple books that had Elizabeth orchestrating everything from the shadows, I loved seeing her take on an active role once more â especially in a story that involves multi-leveled cons, with multiple con artists working with and against each other. The shenanigans were delightful!
