3.5 stars. An interesting investigation of insurance fraud at sea with helpful background information about the shipping insurance industry, shipping, and the people populating those worlds. The actual core story is interesting but a little lacking in tension and detail, even with the one possible murder at the center of it. I also think the authors went out of their way to hate on the legal team for the insurers, simply offering the investigators POV, without trying to critically assess why and how the lawyers were doing something (ultimately successfully I might add). All in all, the book is a quality read, and kept engaging by not getting bogged down in excessive detail.

The book was interesting for a while. It got bogged down in so many details that didn't push the story forward. I stopped at chapter 20 and just read what happened on Wikipedia. Even though I "figured" it out. Would be better as an article.

From a pirate attack of the shores of Somalia to a London court, this is a fascinating tale of complex maritime insurance fraud. Maritime insurance fraud doesn't sound like the most fascinating subject in the world but by focussing on one case, the authors have managed to bring life, and shocking death, to the subject. The only reason it's not five stars is because sometimes the authors over explain the obvious which is slightly irritating. Great book though
