Wow! This is 100% worth the read. Trevor Noah's voice is unlike any other, it's funny, engaging, reflective, and unique. His perspective on family dynamics, culture, relationships, race, poverty, and violence really helped me to reframe my own preconceived notions about South Africa. I learned so much about the apartheid system and how if affected the people of this country at every level. I highly recommend this book. 10/10

This was a great memoir. Trevor Noah has a wonderful writing voice that brings together humor and information. He tells the story of his youth and all the lessons and challenges he went through, while also creating an entertaining and casual story that brings you into his perspective and outlook. The book is also very interesting for its insights into apartheid/post-apartheid life in South Africa and all of the nuances that came with it. I took off a 1/4th star only because the constant back and forth of timelines between chapters broke the flow a bit as the chronology felt a bit jumpy and you occasionally stopped to understand when things were taking place, but overall a wonderful, informative and entertaining read. Definitely recommend.

Trevor is a mixed race man who partially grew up living under apartheid in South Africa, which might make it seem like his would be a story that’s tough to relate to. On the contrary, this is a collection of stories for anyone who has ever felt like they don’t fit in anywhere. At times tough to read, at times laugh out loud funny, at times both simultaneously, I respected him before but I adore him now.
