I really have no words. It could have been good but just wasn’t.

Grace has the personality of a fig tree and Nate is the most whiny male lead I have ever read.

I read this series out of order, so I saw glimpses of Grace and Nate in Diana’s book but I loved their story! Regency and Victorian romances are my comfort reads and what I used to read almost exclusively. This one did not disappoint in the rules of reputations and a horrible antagonist. Grace was in a terrible position and she kept catching Nate off-guard. I didn’t know how they could possibly get their happily ever after with her uncle’s schemes but I loved how it worked out. Esther does a great job of swoony kisses and creating that tension that I love in these books. It was also great to see Lord Bryant at his worst but know that he gets redeemed in a later book.

Content Notes: Kisses, attempted sexual assault, sexual harassment

Grace Sinclair is no stranger to loneliness and grief. Her parents have been gone for several years, and after staying with the local vicar and his family she is now forced to make a home with her aunt and uncle. Unfortunately, things are made more difficult for her because of how beautiful she is. She has lived for years with unwanted advances and has developed a distrust of men because of it.
After moving in with her aunt and uncle, she learns that her uncle is not a nice man. To get out of his house she agrees to pursue a certain gentleman at his request in hopes that a marriage will occur. She is told by her cousin that she needs to be caught in a scandalous situation with the gentleman so that he will be forced to marry her. She soon realizes that this is easier said than done.
This is a delightful book that is cleverly crafted. Grace is kind and innocent but also stubborn. She stands up for herself because she has had too, but desperately wants a family who will want her around. I could not put this book down and read it in about 4 hours, but I wished there was so much more to it!

I thought that this book was really good and I liked the romance and the relationship between Nate and Grace was really cute. I liked how much development they each had throughout the whole book and how they decided that love cannot be changed so easily. I did think that it was a weird plot. And the author was trying to do enemies-to-lovers and she didn’t know entirely what she was doing. And there weren’t any funny parts in the book at all. There were no comic relief characters and it kind of drove me insane. But overall, it was a pretty good read and was cute.

I LOVED this book! It was so fun as Grace tries to trap Nate. He was so determined to be a gentleman. This story had lots of twists and I didnt know if they would get their HEA. I would love a sequel and see these delightful characters again!

It was a good story. Very engaging, however the tone of the heroine was a little odd to me. I didn't feel the emotion behind her actions or inactions. That may have been my experience alone though.

A Proper Scandal by Esther Hatch

First off, let’s start with how I was on the edge of my seat for the majority of this book. That almost never happens with my historical romance reads. The plot is rich and leads the story. The main characters are well developed and have personalities of their own.

Grace is a girl with no place of her own. An orphan taken in by the local vicar, with beauty a plenty and a hefty dowry. Many of the local villager boys have their eye on her but none of them want her for who she is. When the opportunity arises to stay with her aunt and her aunt’s new husband in London, Grace reluctantly agrees. Only, she realizes her situation has become much worse. She has two weeks to marry a man in order to save herself from the danger she finds herself in.

I could see parts of myself in Grace making it easy to connect with her and her longings. She has a naive view of society with a giddy zest for life. She’s an easy character to root for.

Nate is fantastic and I love how easily he falls for her charms, all the while trying his hardest to fight the feelings arising in him.

Their story is so cute, I could cry at that adorable happy ending. It was well fought for and deserved.
