Beauty Queens is the tale of 50 beauty pageants who crash on a deserted Island. I know.. that sounds scary, but these Teen Dreamers aren't afraid, no these ladies are the brightest of beacons in a dark world. They are willing and ready for any challenge.. well that may have been who they were prior to the crash, but things have taken a turn for the worst. Leave a group of teen beauty queens without any makeup, food, and chance of survival and then people start showing their true identities. To make matters worse, the island has a volcano that looks a bit sketchy and there are rumblings in the jungle and bodies are starting to turn up! Will they survive? Who will be crowned the next Miss Teen Dream? These ladies are about to find out that beauty is the last thing you can rely on in the pageant of life in order to survive. Come sequins or runs in their tights these girls are about to walk the hardest runway yet!

Libba Bray is PHENOMENAL!! This was my first experience with her work and I could not stop laughing. Beauty Queens is "Lost" meets Lord of the Flies" with prettier characters and a crown at the end of the adventure. Bray takes pop culture references, politics, and commercialism and spins it on its butt in this laugh out loud adventure of what it truly means to have girl power. Loved it!

I'm sorry but I don't even call this a book. It was so stupid I didn't want to finish it because it was so far off from the track it was on. I can't even

**Listen to Bop Skizzum's song "Beauty Queen" and see if it doesn't make the perfect soundtrack to the climactic beach scene at the end of the book.**

You know, I thought I'd hate this book - the language is all very knowing and nudgey and not subtle in the least. But the characters grew on me and I liked how the girls became feminists and set off to fight the big fight. S'okay!

What a fun read! Beauty queens crash onto a deserted island. Yes they seem superficial and catty at first but through the story they stick up for each other and you find out their strengths. "It had the word bitches in it, which is perfectly fine to use if you're a rapper or a director making a movie about career women, but not if you're a teen girl talking to her homies."

This book is a wonderful amazing treasure and I want to read it over and over until I've memorized it.

Update: This book is even better than I remembered it.

this was fantastic, cynical, hilarious and surprisingly deep and diverse and each character was unique.
the audiobook is amazing and Libba bray is a fantastic voice actor wow i am amazed at how funny she can make her voice be and how each character had it's unique voice and tone that you can recognize immediately who's talking. i literally underestimated this book because of the cover and the premise and thought it's a pass for me but now that i read it/listened it i learned not to underestimate Libba bray ever again.
I LOVED how diverse this was and she had so so many characters yet she handled them so well and each character had it's own back story, progress and growth and it's just perfect how you can see yourself in all of these girls and even better you can connect to a specific one too i mean how rare is that
i never thought i'd have so many things to say about this book but oh boy do i do
i only didn't like the ending of one character which is taylor and i wished just she'd had a better resolution.
