This story was not as engaging as I'd hoped. I found Vicky oddly clinical and abstract - she didn't feel like a real character. She talked formally, thought formally, and just felt as flat as the paper I was reading her from.

I liked Gabriel and I did like how his illness was portrayed but I thought the doctor put too much responsibility on the group to keep each other safe and healthy and I thought her sharing patient confidential info pretty unrealistic.

Actually 3 1/2 stars rounded up for the authenticity of the depiction of depression. The characters were good but not great but the author did cover some of what some people suffer when they have depression. It isn't all just an I am sad. It is the struggle to keep pretending that everything is okay and you wear a mask.

If I shelved books by themes or topics, I would put this near [b:Challenger Deep|18075234|Challenger Deep|Neal Shusterman|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1412791447l/18075234._SY75_.jpg|25379189] and [b:All the Bright Places|18460392|All the Bright Places|Jennifer Niven|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1404331702l/18460392._SY75_.jpg|26113532], for being about teens dealing with mental health issues. I liked that the group therapy kids got to know each other and became friends, rather than adversaries who know how to push each others' buttons. That river rafting trip seemed like a bad idea though, but I'm like EM and not comfortable around the water.

You are not your depression.
You are not your thoughts.
Green is the color of life, and it is all around you.

This book definitely captures what it's like living with depression. There is a lot of internal dialogue, which may have been a reason it took me so long to get through the book even though the story was well-written. For some reason, I never felt that I truly connected to any of the characters until the end, and then I wanted more. Which, I guess, can be kinda like what living with depression is like.

I loved this book about a girl getting back on her feet after attempting suicide.

DNF:::
I wanted to finish and like this book I really did, but I just couldn't do it. There wasn't really a story line there and the characters bored me. I should have known, while I was reading it I thought "hm this sounds familiar" ahhh right Its Kinda a Funny Story that's where it's from. I tried but failed
