This looked like it was going to be a brilliant psychological thriller with a lot of twists. However, the magic is slowly taken away early on in the storyline when the POV chapters appear. Then there is this Christian cult leader type vibe that just seems to pop up out of no where and then it's becomes all the book is talking about. Pretty dull.

Interesting start. At times, the author writes so beautifully, too. But ultimately, the ending falls pretty flat and the character motivations are a little weak. 3.5/5 stars.

While it started out good, the ending (or more like the last ~60 pages) fell flat to me, personally. I think with this book the synopsis was more promising to me than the book turned out, but if you're looking for an easy thriller read you can fly through, this might be something for you!

A decent book! Quite suspenseful which I love, but I did call the ending. That said, calling the ending felt satisfying rather than eye-roll-worthy, so I appreciate the way this story was curated and the unique way that it was told through all the different personas.

The mother didn't feel relatable and didn't pull me in emotionally. The climax was a little early and you could see it coming.

This was recommended to me as a book to read if you enjoyed Gone Girl, so I'm going to start out by reviewing by comparison. Both books have you wondering the whole time what's *really* going on. While the pacing of Gone Girl was a little faster and more of a "psychological thriller", I preferred the story of Good As Gone. Perhaps it's just timing for me personally, but this story feels more real, and more emotional than Gone Girl. It sheds light on how humans react to grief, or learn that their heroes aren't so heroic, or that the emotional rock they've been leaning on might need support, too. While the tragedy that takes place in chapter 1 (no spoilers, you can read it on the blurb) is rare, all of the emotional aftermath can be seen repeated across all sorts of different human dramas, and I think the author did a good job tapping into it.
