I won this book in an ARC giveaway three some years ago, and I'm embarrassed to say I finally pulled it out to read. But I am so glad I did. The story is so adorable. I'll be looking for more!

Wow. I love this book. The story was a jumbled up, magical mystery that I couldn't get enough of. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was because I felt like Elly and Carmen had no depth to their characters. I didn't feel for them the way I felt for Itsy. If they had been more fleshed out, the story would have been pure gold.

I would have given this a 4 because I liked the story and the way it was written, but I had a hard time with some of the characters and the choices they made (Carmen, Margaret and Mimi in particular) and believing some of the relationships.

At first, I thought this would be one of those trashy chick beach books, which are good in their own way, but once the tale of the Amore family began to weave itself, I became entranced. This is no ordinary "girl moves back home" story. This is a story of love, family ties, magic, and new beginnings.

There are no words. This book is addicting and definitely one of my new favorites. I've never read anything like it. Absolutely 'spellbinding'!!!

The story has ended. I am not ready to leave the world of this enchanting book: the abundant garden thick with hardy vines and flowers, the magical family of loving sisters and brothers, the powers of magic and secret spells, the familiar Italian references, bittersweet memories of childhood, of anticipated birth and acceptance of death, and powers of love and continuity. A book of life and wisdom.

"Life gets heavy."
"Everyone is entitled to a redo."
Paraphrase or quote?? Love can be warm and gentle and comfortable rather than a Tasmanian Devil of emotions and insecurities.
The personalities in this book are so like those of my mother's Italian family.
