For anyone who has been desperate to impress or get the approval of someone, you will understand how Taran feels. CR does a wonderful job of showing us what it is like to “meet the parents”. To have try so hard and have nothing work out the way you want.

We have followed all the Weird sisters since SEALED WITH A CURSE from Celia's POV and mind, it's time to see how Taran's mind works. Don't be fooled by the fact that OF FLAME AND PROMISE says it's #6 in the Weird Girls series. This is a novella, not a full size novel.

I want to start out my review by stating that I really hate going backwards in a series. The events in OF FLAME AND PROMISE take place right after the events of book 2, A CURSED EMBRACE, just from Taran's POV and with events in her life instead of Celia's. Now having said that, OF FLAME AND PROMISE manages to make the going back as painless as possible and pulls off a pretty great story.

There were plenty of laughs and a bit of tears from the first chapter to the last. I enjoyed diving more into Taran and Gemini's relationship. Taran fumbles a lot in OF FLAME AND PROMISE, but Gemini remains by her side through it all. I had no problems staying in the story and I am actually looking forward to being in Taran's head again. I do however hope we don't continue to stay in the past. I would like to see how things are going after the events of book 5, A CURSE UNBROKEN.

English Review :

It was a novella who introduces Taran as the new narrator. She was strong, just as her magic, but she hides a fragility. She isn't as confident as she wants to appear. But she loves Gemini and wants make all the efforts she can to please him.
When he announces to her than his parents was coming, she panicked! She tried very hard to be the perfect mate for her lover, but she accumulates the goods. The more she tried, worst is it. Happily, she can count on her sisters and her lover.
It was a nice novella. Taran was a great new narrator and her for, balance by her fragility, are very interesting. Everyone can see than she and Gemini are perfect together and readers hope very hard they will be happy together... without all the difficulties Ceel are lived.
A good story.

I am a HUGE fan of Cecy Robson and I devoured this book in a day. Taran is so fierce, loyal, gorgeous and sassy who honestly wouldn't want more of her? In all honesty I've been hoping and praying that she would get her on book so that we could get more insight into who she is and get more of her character and....we got it!!
Taran is in love with her boyfriend Gemini, Tomo, but due to her own past and that of her sister Celia's heartbreak with Aric she is afraid to really let him, Tomo, in and let him totally into her life 100%. On a level it's heartbreaking to read, see and feel her hesitation when he is showing her how much he loves her but sometimes all a person needs...is time.
This book takes place after/around Shayna's wedding so that is where this story picks up so that those who are reading the series in order don't get too confused. The Tribe is local and in hiding but always on the move. Gemini, Taran and his parents are forced to face them one evening and things go bad but they could always be worse... Taran learns a lot about herself and we get lots of action for sure.
I laughed, cried, shook my head and got annoyed with Taran but all in all I LOVED this book and absolutely could not get enough of it by any stretch of the imagination. Needless to say Cecy Robson has a fan for life with the Wird girls. Love it. Highly recommended to any and all who like/love paranormal, romance and fun with demons, weres, vamps and others of the supernatural.

I received a copy of this book for free in exchange for my unbiased opinion of it.

I’ve got to say that it was hard to get back into this because the events in occur between books 2 and 3 of the Weird Girls series. So much has happened since then that I just didn’t want to go back in time. If you’ve read any of my reviews from the series at all you would know how miserable I was for Celia and now this put me right back in prime misery territory. I think I would have vastly preferred to have read this in the order it falls in chronologically in the overall story.

I completely love Celia but Taran has always been my fan favorite character. She’s one of the funniest characters I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading about. Her whole attitude and snark won me over. Sadly, she kind of annoyed me this time. I knew she had a chip on her shoulder and was defensive from seeing her in the Weird Girls series. But now that I’m reading from her perspective, half the time I just wanted to slap her upside the head. The other half of the time I loved her humor and sarcasm and was excited to have a front row seat for it. Here are a couple of examples.

“Love sucked bear balls.
And Liam probably ate them.”

Celia walked in then, her smile fading when she caught a good look at me. “Um. How’s it going?”
“My tits are soaked and I resemble Bozo the scary and hairy clown. How do you think its going?”

All I can say is that if the next book is just going to be more of her low self-esteem bullshit it’s going to be a rough on to get through. Taran may be a heroine that I’m very conflicted over. She’s smart and funny, and kick ass but she’s so emotionally weak that it may irritate me when she’s being whiny. Time will tell I suppose. I’m on to Of Fire and Light which should be happening in the present. I really hope there are going to be more books in this series but I’m constantly dismayed that there aren’t any listings for more stories on goodreads. Please Cecy Robson! I need more!

I am fairly new to the world of the Wird sisters. I began my journey with Gone Hunting, which ironically wasn’t the first book written, but was a prequel to the series. I followed this up with A Curse Awakened and Wird Girls all novellas that gave me a taste of the sister’s world and the challenges they faced.

When I discovered that book 9 would soon be released, I enquired if I needed to read the previous books prior to jumping into the new book. It was then I discovered that books 6 to 9 told Taran’s (the second oldest of the Wird sisters) story. Therefore, continuing my journey with Of Flame and Promise, book 6, would not be an issue.

Based on my research, I have discovered that the events of this installment occurred somewhere between book 2 and book 4.

In this installment I got a close-up view into Taran and Gemini’s relationship. Gemini a werewolf, so named as he had the ability to split into two wolves.

Taran loves Gemini, but she fears commitment, a fear which intensified after seeing her sister experience her share of heartbreak. So, when Gemini asks her to meet his parents, the poor girl freaked. She is a powerful and tough character, but meeting the parents was scarier than facing down demons and vampires. Her vulnerability and insecurity leapt off the pages.

Gemini was such a sweetheart. His patience with Taran, despite her many attempts to avoid commitment, was remarkable. His hurt at her avoidance was palpable and I couldn’t help but empathize with him.

Taran was a riot. The words coming out of her mouth had me laughing. However, what had me in stitches were the scenes where she tried her best to impress Gemini’s parents. Everything that could go wrong did and her lack of filter did not help the situation.

I enjoyed the romance, which was passionate, sweet and genuine. It was clear their love was of the forever kind, only Taran failed to see it.

Besides the pressure of meeting the parents, Gemini and Taran faces danger, resulting in near death situations. Intense action scenes kept me on the edge of my seat.

Despite this being a novella, it treated me to a fully fleshed out story.

Conclusion/Recommendation
Of Flame and Promise was a great read. It provided danger, action, humour and romance. I can’t wait to read more of Taran’s story. I will also go back to read Celia’s story. (Celia is the eldest of the Wird sisters.) Fans of urban fantasy would not want to miss picking up this series.
