Once again, M.A. Church delivers a fun, playful, sexy story about a feline shifter and his human mate. Heller does not like humans. Personal history left him with a strong hatred for the species. So when he scents his mate, and realizes it’s a human, he is horrified. He initially rejects his mate and refuses to acknowledge him, but his view changes when Lawson, is threatened.

“Can I treat you like a cat?” My favorite scene is when Heller shifts for the first time for Lawson. And although he's known about paranormals for years, is a bit shy and doesn't quite know how to act around Heller's cat. They play for hours with the box of cat toys Heller has stashed in the living room. I said this in my review of book one, but Ms. Church really brings to life the persona of the cat, including all the quirky mannerisms.

Heller’s hatred of humans didn’t seem to make sense, until he explained to Lawson what caused it. I could totally understand where he was coming from. He experienced a horrific ordeal at the hands of a human, and it would be enough for any paranormal to write them off.

Lawson is threatened, but it’s really nothing to do with Lawson. And the story doesn't fully end at the end of book two. It is left unfinished as it shifts to revolve around Lawson's friend, Marshell. I can only hope we do not have to wait too long for the resolution and Marshell's story.

If you like cats, and you like shifters, this series is a must read.

4.5 Stars - Behind the Eight Ball is book 2 in the Fur, Fangs, and Felines series, and once again, MA Church has brought us a delightful, fun book with just enough conflict to make it interesting but not so much as to bring the reader down.

I loved the descriptions of Heller as a cat – it was so like a real cat, fun and playful, and a joy to read. As a cat lover myself, I couldn’t help but grin.

The rest of the story was great too. I loved how Heller turned around and that we got to see why he hated humans so much. I loved Lawson and loved that the relationship, though fated mates, wasn’t insta-love. They took time to get to know each other.

The set up for book three was great and I can’t wait to read that as well!

Not for me, apparently. I was annoyed throughout the book.

Honestly, my biggest complaint was the sweets conversations. "Oh, cats can't taste sweets." Well, then they probably wouldn't like soda and the only people salivating for brownies would be the former humans. I don't know why that removed me from the story so badly each time, but it did.

I skipped book 1 because it was a MMM (not my taste) and I managed to follow the story. It was quite enjoyable!

Once again a great read. She continues with the bigotry theme and her handling is as solid as the first. The characters are well written and well developed.

All happened so fast. In a second Heller was all "Damn humans! I will never mate one of those vermins" and in the next second "Love of my life!". Kind of dull and very cheesy.

One thing that bothered me very much was how Lawson acted in bed.
He could be the most topperson top of the tops but Heller had to stop being so stubborn and botton already. However when it came to him everything was ok with just topping.

I'm sorry, but this book read YA to me -the actions, behaviors, and conversation content/style of the characters. DNF

My least fav of the series. I just didn’t really connect with the characters and struggled with this one.
