Penny Reid is so dang funny and not terribly predictable. I’ll be waiting for book 3.

Slow burn, work place, forced proximity. You will get all these elements in this book. The book kept my interest with many aspects and layers to the story. When we got past all those layers and it was Beth and Cyrus, Cyrus was very attentive and thoughtful. I wish there and been more with Beth and Cyrus.

Enjoyable

I've been reading Penny for years, and I think she might have gotten a sensitivity reader. Usually there would be something in Penny's books that would at least make me raise an eyebrow, but not so this time. I enjoyed the character growth, the story line, and of course the steam. Penny Reid can write some steam.

Strong female and more cuddley male. Loved the change.

Readers in the mood for a high-heat romcom should turn back now, but those in it for the long-haul, slow-burn, will-they-or-won’t they (spoiler - they will!) romance will enjoy ‘Drama King’ by Penny Reid.

This story follows a non-traditional format. It is dual point of view, but readers don’t always know what is going on in both characters’ minds. For the first half of the story, most chapters build up to one of Cyrus and Beth’s interactions. The interaction happens, and then the story jumps ahead. It’s an interesting style of storytelling.

Both characters felt well developed, with childhood trauma that informed who they are as adults. While Beth is by all rights a kick-ass heroine, Cyrus felt impossible not to love.

This felt like a first draft in comparison to her other books, kind of phoned in- I can see where it could have been great. The character development was sudden and crushed into the end rather than a build up. I was disappointed because I really do enjoy the Knitting in the City and Winston brothers series. If this is your first Penny Reid I definitely encourage you to read more of her books and think of this as an outlier!

Again! And really, ever time! I am so entertained by Penny Reid's books that I don't want to stop reading them. And then the worst thing happens, they end. Waiting an entire year for book two is this funny but heart warming series about three high school friends, was hard. Having to wait another for book three is agony. Drama King was charming, heart felt and, of course, funny in the only way this author can be. 5 star read.

Second time through was a listen on audio - still funny and entertaining.
