This book is certainly well-written, but it took longer to get into than I expected. I clearly saw the parallels to our recent experience with a pandemic, from the early denials and attempts to stem remediation, to the grief of loss and exhaustion of the sameness of living in a cut-off world. Camus at times gets too philosophical for my taste, but I must admit he isn’t wrong in his observations.

I liked this book because it was very philosophically interesting and I like Camus' writing style, but I was just far too long and slow paced for me. You could cut about 100 pages and still be fine.

A thought provoking and deeply melancholic book.
