A bit slow at first. Great descriptive writing, both characters and scenic geography. The Australian outback and isolation plays a central character in itself.

This was a very well written book, and whilst it took me around the first 100 pages to get into I was then absolutely glued.

So much family history, secrets, remorse.

It includes themes of depression, rape, domestic and child abuse  and murder.

This book was very well written, so well written in fact, that the sense of unease you're supposed to feel, made me want to put it down.  This is a thriller that did most definitely mess with my sense of wellbeing.  Props to the author, I want it to be clear that the only reason this is a 3.5, is because she did such a good job making me uncomfortable.  Also, there is a flash back and quite a few mentions of a dog dying in a really terrible way.
