"In all the stories, women give up everything, we are always supposed to give. We are never supposed to fight. Why do you think that is?"

"Because they're afraid of what will happen if we do."

This exchange was when I knew this series had me. After reading yet another blub about a girl trapped in a beautiful palace, rebellion and danger I was very apprehensive to read Grace and Fury. I feel like I've read a hundred of these stories. This one however actually offered something different and I finished it in a day.
Not only is it an easy read but I found there was enough plots twists to keep me guessing. It lets you think you know what's happening and then gently turns it on you. I found I had accurately guessed a few of them but I wasn't disappointed, more excited that I had gotten it right.
Both Nomi and Serina learn valuable lessons and face harsh consequences. I appreciated that these girls weren't perfect and they truly do suffer while they learn how the world really works. These are real girls in a harsh and extreme society but I believe it.
It finishes without too much of a cliffhanger but I'm still desperate for the next one.

4.5 stars. Good book entertaining.

This book is best summarized as if "Red Queen" and "Handmaids Tale" had a baby, who grew up in the "Hunger Games" arena.

Spoliers: Asa is the Grace and Fury version of Maven who betrays Nomi(Mare), and The older sister Serina is thrown into a arena to learn to fight to the death because she got caught with a stolen book because 4it is illegal for women to Read, write, and do basically anything that is not breeding, raising families, or seamstress work.

I adore this book
The Story is about two sisters, who couldn't be more different.
Serina is trained to be a Grace. (A Grace is kind of like a wive, but with much less rights) And Nomi (Serinas younger Sister) will be her handmaiden.
But, big plot twist, Nomi is coosen by the Heir to become a Grace and Serina is turned into the handmaiden.
And so the Story begins. Serina is caught reading and is send to prison, while Nomi is left alone in the castle with the other graces. Both of them start to learn how to survive, Serina in prison, where the guards let women fight each other till death, and Nomi is trying to learn how to become a Grace and trying to finding a way to free her sister with the help of the Heir's brother.
The World the sisters live in, is not exactly woman friendly. Women are not aloud to work or read and the not allowed to cut there hair without their husbands permisson!
It is a stroy with lot of feminism (I LOVE IT!) and feelings. And I think everybody should read it!

3.5 stars. I enjoyed this one but have feelings about some of these characters. The story was a bit predictable but I still liked it.

Full review to come.

I enjoyed the audio for this one and liked that there were two narrators for the different chapters. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in the series and this was a great option for a re-read.

Actual rating: 3.75*

Spoiler free mini review.

This book actually pleasantly surprised me. After reading book after book that I get from Fairyloot and being disappointed almost every time, my expectations weren’t high going into this book. But I liked it well enough and I had fun while reading.

The strongest thing about this book was definitely the plot. It moved really fast and I loved that while there was always something going on, it still build to a spectacular finale. I thought the ending was a great way to make readers want to pick up the second book, which I’m already currently reading. I think the characters were okay, I loved how the stereotypical was broken through and that while the sisters both trained for a specific life they were sent a completely different way and needed to survive in the new circumstances. I also liked the writing and the (kind of predictable) twists.

Things I didn’t much enjoy was that it was overall a bit predictable and that it contained a lot of tropes, I’m especially tired of seeing a man driven world where the mc is the only one that can change it. I also think that it lacks some dimension and depth, especially in the world building and characters. I just wanted a bit more sometimes. But for a 320 page book that was overall satisfying, I think 3.75 is a fair enough rating.

3.5/5!!

I really liked the setting of this book, I could really picture some of the places in my head and I loved that!! When I first started this book it gave me such big The Belles vibes and I wasn't a huge fan of that but by the end it felt VERY much Red Queen in fact it felt like I was reading Red Queen and that disappointed me a lot because it wasn't as original as it originally sounded!!

I liked both Nomi and Sirena, I had issues with both of them but I loved the character development especially Sirena like my girl is a complete BADASS we love a strong female character.

I found the chapters set in the prison more interesting than the ones in the palace honestly and found myself kind of skimming the palaces chapters in the middle because they were a bit boring but the prison scenes were so intense and the women there were all so different and such intense characters and I liked that.

What I did really like about this book was the social commentary when it came to politics and gender, it saved this book for me and is why I will definitely be continuing on with this series!!
